Talk Audio – If Carlsberg Made Online Communities
It’s strange how we all have our very own face and seemingly our very own fingerprint of tastes and internet habits. Notwithstanding the Avenue Q song (and while I’d love to think that lots of folks read the magazine and see this as ‘This Week’ on TA Magazine) some folks look for Blogs instead and someone found last week’s when it was duplicated onto the forum system as a Blog for the first time. I was contacted from the other side of the world via a bloke who was Chris Brown’s equivalent at Alpine Australia. He was as shocked as the rest of us and expressed his feelings.
Those amongst you who have had the passion for the longest time will recall the magazine that gave me my very first go as a writer, Car Stereo & Security. It was originally called Fast Forward but if you ordered it at a newsagent for whom English was not their mother tongue, you tended to get Fast Ford instead. It was the first specialist car audio mag for me and I got in there many issues in after sending them a letter to the editor as a reader. Well, Paul Lee, known as pauljolee on the forum was busily scanning and posting these mags as a whole archive. They are still where he put them as a ‘sticky’ thread, with over eleven thousand viewings. It’s compelling reading for us old grunters and for the keen younger history types alike.
In one of those horrible sudden incidents that driving can just serve up, Paul was killed in a low speed crash on his motorcycle on the day that this column was published last week. You can see a picture of him in the write up of the T16 meet. It was labelled Man With A Mission. Well, I too hold all the mags and one way or another, we’ll get that particular mission accomplished in his name. He’s going to be missed round these parts.
