Talk Audio – Audio On The Move

Regular readers will know that this time last week I was cock a hoop over the arrival of the Guinness World RecordTM certificate and was about to make a video to that end. Thing is, we had been awaiting the ratification for some time as the wheels of such an august process do not run recklessly and that stops it being what newsmen (and women) call time-sensitive and I had a better subject for immediate consumption.
I got a call from Brainiest-Dude-In-Ice Chris Woods of Four Axis to tell me that he had a VIP on board and asking if I would like to meet him again? I of course said ‘yes!’ I met Kenneth Perrson at the Las Vegas CES and after some time on the show floor went off to have a meal with him and Matt Robins (in his pre-Fusion days) while they talked business. Trouble was, I am crap at sleeping on planes and was so deeply jet lagged I simply lost consciousness at the table, all but going face down in my tea! I at last had a chance to apologise as I hadn’t seen him since!
Apparently CDT have a new design of shallow front magnet speaker that is utterly unlike any of the Illusion Audio type seen before. The shallow front magnet is married to some real lumps of steel and so despite the use of the best and most expensive Neodymium magnet material there is, the speaker weighs a bit! It’s intended to eventually take the mantle of the now legendary HD6 driver, that in turn is celebrating it’s 20th year. I nagged the poor man and railroaded him into appearing in the video that was put up later the same day. Now, Ken likes it so much I am to send a copy to the States on a disc!
On a slightly less high end price note, the original good-but-affordable guys, ProPlus, have finally done some more development work. Their involvement with Rockford and the sheer bullet-proofedness of their original kit has kept the previous ranges running for years as current product but just so you know, their new range is called Armageddon and is all shades of doomy black I gather. I look forward to seeing it and having a go on some.
Also, last week, I did BBC breakfast and BBC Radios London and Northampton about the RAC survey that said folks were distracted by their electronics. I was all “RTFM and practice changing a disc without looking longer than a moment!” Good fun and it put me back in touch with an old school friend who got me into comix with his character called The Mighty Apocalypse. I gather he did go work for Marvel for a bit. Nowadays he designs iPhone Apps, one of which addresses my objection to small hard-to-see touch screens for music use!
The Necvox HQ-2 headunit and Alpine iDA-X305 are still in the reviews mill but I’m off this morning for a meeting with a man about assigning the digital rights to my Mama’s back catalogue of novels. It’s a direct progression from reviewing the Sony Reader right here on TA!
