Week Seven, It’s Land Rover Heaven

I have been a mad keen angler my whole life. Even the fat carp in the old concrete pool at Kew gardens would make my thumbs itch. I love fish, to eat, swim with and just to look at. The atavistic hunter-gatherer in me runs deep and I think also informs my acquisitiveness with all sorts of electronic toys as well. And of course I’m dead ambitious to get more into the fishing press, as it’s always good to have strings on bows and it’s such fun.
So today I have been to Kenwood Electronics, right next door to the lakes and wet bits of the Watford Piscators fishing club to swag a top piece of kit for my new fishing buddy Ian Welch. Or rather for his Freelander2 TD4 4×4 beastie. The unit is a double DIN everything box (DVD, USB, Nav, CD, radio, TV tuner ready, Bluetooth Audio and hands free) with a sexy touch screen and best of all, uses Garmin navigation as their system can go off road and leave a route through fields in your nav if need be, to tell you how to get back again to anywhere you have visited by finding it on the map or by postcode entry as kick-off. You can of course add your own POI’s and one of them is a fish symbol. I’m looking forward to reviewing it here and in Ian’s car.
I am still to plug in those Pioneer Accelerate ten inchers to the test amp but promise I will do right away, as I am told that as well as working well on headunit power they enjoy a proper if moderate amplifier, too. I am advanced now with a hugely complex pull through of another very clever navigation product indeed, the Clarion MAP 790 PND. It too can display 3D landmarks, uses the same sexy SiRFstarIII GPS 20 channel chippery as the very best full size machines like the Kenwood and has a slot for SD cards. I don’t know if you can add databases to the MAP 790 or not yet, as we had one added to Ian’s example. He’s going to try it and we can review it in the Anglers Mail as well! I even made a video for the Mail’s Facebook page, which was fun.
There’s a new Sony Reader to play with and I have some interestingly posh ear buds to try as well, which might pique you alongside our more normal fare. And I found out about that Stinger news. All I can reveal is it is to do with what I term Electronic Countermeasures….
I’ll go get on then….
