Introducing TuneTot: The Baby Wilson Audio Speakers You Can Place Anywhere
Thirty years ago, I was production manager at Acoustic Energy loudspeakers. We made three models based around one tweeter and one five inch driver and we charged an unheard-of £700 a pair, back when that was a lot of money for a tiny pair of bookshelf loudspeakers. These, however, from the legendary Wilson stable, are just under eleven grand…. or £14,429 with all accessories, like grilles as well (They do make one model that costs £700,000, mind…) read on..
The latest addition to the Wilson Audio family of extreme-fidelity stereo loudspeakers is a versatile, customisable, compact model designed to sit on a desk, table, shelf or sideboard.
Technical Summary
- Wilson Audio’s smallest-ever speaker, designed to bring the company’s exemplary sonic standards to tight, awkward, acoustically hostile spaces around the home
- Can be customised with accessories to suit the location, both aesthetically and acoustically
- Designed by Wilson’s Special Applications Engineering team and built to the same exacting standards as every other Wilson Audio speaker, right up to the £700,000 WAMM Master Chronosonic
- Cabinets made from Wilson Audio’s proprietary, ultra-vibration-resistant ‘X-material’ and ‘S-material’ composites, incorporating a 5.75in mid/bass driver and 1in tweeter
- Asymmetric cabinet design ensures no two internal surfaces are parallel, thus eradicating sonically deleterious internal reflections
- Austenitic stainless-steel spikes isolate the speaker from its environment and provide time-domain adjustability
- TuneTot draws its name and much of its design philosophy from the legendary Wilson Audio Tiny Tot (WATT) – one of the most iconic high-end loudspeaker designs, created by the late Dave Wilson in the mid-1980s
Colours & Optional Accessories
- Available in five WilsonGloss® colours created specifically for TuneTot – Quartz, Teak, Ivory, Carbon and Crimson – applied in Wilson Audio’s automotive-class paint facility
- Optional TuneTot ISOBase platform enhances performance when citing the speakers on a more resonant surface, such as a desk, shelf or sideboard made from MDF or hardwood
- The ISOBase is made from a sandwich of Wilson Audio’s proprietary composites and newly developed polymers, finished in the same colour options as the speakers
- The TuneTot Grille is an optional extra, made from acoustically transparent fabric with a frame milled from Wilson Audio’s ‘X-material’ composite
- The Grille is available in six fabric colour options – Slate Grey, Parchment Grey, Black, Blanco, Le Mans Blue and Mocha – to complement the speakers and match existing furnishings
- Those who prefer to expose the drivers rather than use a grille can instead purchase the TuneTot Ring, milled from 6061-T6 aluminium, to cover the mid/bass driver’s mounting hardware
- The TuneTot Ring is available in four anodised colours – Steel Grey, Clear, Red or Black – adding another layer of customisation
