Memorial Boom. Ground Pounding For Joe
Imagine for a moment that you are in a Holly-Bollywood world, where the impossible becomes possible, and for those who knew him, what do you think the spirit of our mate Joe Ajji would have us do to mark his passing? Imagine him appearing like Mufasa the Lion in a cloud and in a voice bigger even than James Earl Jones, he instructs us
Is it get together by bus and weep quietly?
Or gather in quantity and bring our cars and crank the living bloody hell out of all our systems, all at once until our voice coils smell and our chests can feel the pressure of the bass? Until the ground shakes and Demon God Of Total Harmonic Distortion rises up out of the craggy cinders of the pits at Arena Essex and explodes, from the head downwards as we destroy him with the purity, depth and power of our lows?
I think it’s the louder option Joe would have us do and you can imagine hearing his laugh at the end
So let seismographs around the planet record his passing, as we collectively drop a note so phat that concrete cracks and small children feel fear in nearby Thurrock as they lie in their cribs.
For yes, memorial events are planned and such was the level of involvement of the man in all walks of bass competing that there are to be no less than three happenings:
The first is the Propper Droppers event on the 3rd September at Arena Essex as part of the regular drift thing they do down there flyer below, thread here: link This is going to be named the Joe Ajji Memorial event each September as a fixture of enduring respect.
The second is to be hosted by industry stalwarts Car Audio & Security at their Pump Lane, Hayes, Middx address and is to be two Saturdays later on the September 17th as an SPL contest/open day as they have done for years so very well. I would meet Joe at every single one I ever went to. So it is fitting that an event is held in his name. Raj Sangha, boss of CAS, e-mailed me when he learned of Joe’s passing and said, ‘I have read the article you have posted on TA and was deeply saddened to hear of this loss. In memory of Joe, I suggest we hold an SPL bass day on Sat 17th September. We can donate all proceeds from the SPL readings to the local Sikh Gurdwara (temple).
The third is not ‘˜organised’ as such but acknowledged to be inevitable by his closest friends, which is the gathering at Thurrock Lakeside after the PD event on the Saturday. Thus those not wanting to go to the paid-for SPL contest but still wanting some of that park-up, doors-open cruise scenario that WAS Joe so very much, will get their bass dose and also get to chew the fat with mates and swap tales of Joe.
We miss you Geezah and Salute you!
