Happy Bunny Swags Clarion MAP790

As a promotion leading up to the recent Trax Show, the lovely souls at Clarion GB decided that Talk Audio should give away one of the best single swag-prizes in the history of the site. A fully featured Personal Navigation Device (PND) dripping with features and cunning functionality, as well as having simply badass nav chippery in its guts, better than most in-dash products these days, worth the thick end of £300.
The bloke who won was selected by a top executive at Clarion from the thread under the article here: link since at least one old mate signed up to try to swag the thing on purpose. As soon as I spotted that, I removed myself from the judging process. Funnily enough, his comment was out there enough for the Clarion executive to suggest that he needed therapy. But that’s the Internet. And the winning dude in question, known as monkey_biz on Talk Audio is a Scot with over three hundred posts on the forum. It turns out it couldn’t have gone to a more heart-warmingly worthy winner. Here’s what he had to say, minus him being a bit ticked off that his employers didn’t want to let him take his snap outside the Pizza company he works for.

Hi Adam, I’m a forty-four year old family man and mature student studying health and life sciences with a view to become an Honours Podiatrist in four years time. To fund all this, I work part time for a pizza delivery firm twenty hours a week on top of all the studying. The MAP790 arrived today and was given a full test at work tonight…. Mr. R you didn’t give this bit of kit FULL justice! Blow me, is it accurate! Set by postcode and house number my old system would be within ten houses, which is a pain when it’s dark. This one it puts you on the doorstep -and I mean the doorstep!
The automatic night time setting caught me out as well, very nice touch, as is the simple to use Bluetooth phone system with number library. All in all, a top notch bit of kit with the most informative HMI I’ve ever seen though I have switched the over speed warning off, as it gives you no leaway, even when you expand the error – not that I ever speed.
Money is very tight so this has come in very handy, as I couldn’t afford to update my old sat nav, even though it was essential to my work….. bit of a Catch Twenty-Two situation!
Anyway, I can’t thank yourself and also the bods at Clarion enough, as it really has made a difference to my work and is really, really appreciated! I look forward to another ten years of Clarion navigation ownership’

Kinda makes you feel warm inside I guess it’s a little bit like how that Nick Knowles geezer feels off that home improvement show, when he says, ‘I love my job.’
