Car Audio

The Phoenix Gold 2011 Range

Most folks had travelled far further than I, for the location was the Ramada Jarvis Hotel on the A41 on the leafy outskirts of Watford, very close to my home. The occasion was the second of three nights of Phoenix Gold training organised by UK distributors Celsus ICE for those mobile electronics dealers who wanted to get involved with Phoenix Gold car audio.
Led by a crew of Celsus guys, Paul and Mark Baker, Chris Bennett and John Griggs, they had Sergio De Oliviera of Stinger/Aamp of America and Morgan West of Phoenix Gold to present the products to the dealers. A large screen TV showed the images while the guys took us through the products from entry level up to top end from a laptop, using tables full of equipment to hand around. We had such stuff explained as the reality of voice coil diameter versus the sheer size of the motor and its stroke and the difference between package-designing and being a true speaker system design house.

Oddly, some things didn’t translateyou could see them struggle to say ‘˜quid’ instead of ‘˜buck’ when referring to the facts of P-G being a top end brand rather than a participant in The Race To Zero. And I had to tell Morgan about UK bassheads when he suggested we Brits were not as into our bass as the Europeans. I even told him about the ‘˜frequency and power’ Propper Droppers’ format.

The one thing Morgan left out for the likes of the mad audiophiles in the audience was the sheer quality of the Phoenix Gold SQ. The amplifiers all use Triple-Darlington power supplies (which Morgan majored upon) and have brilliant signal to noise ratios, with the lowest being 90dB for class D mono and the best being a whopping 110dB+. This means a high end sound, with edges and definition as well as those huge two and-a-half-kilowatt power houses we learned about for the bass.

It was an inspiring evening and I could see some real love in the room for the brand and what it stood for and now stands for again. I am looking forward to getting some P-G ordnance to test.

So, look out for this stuff at your local ice dealer and beware, this kit does inspire fanboy behaviour!
