Week Forty-Three: In Which I Had A Manic Monday

Ooh what a whirl of glamour and fun my life is! Well, it felt a bit like it yesterday, so hectic that I was unable to get this bloggety bit up on the usual Monday. So what’s up? Well, there was the slightly overlooked (by me) issue of the Mobile Electronics News Awards magazine copy needing writing, which has been my job before and was this time. It’s the thick end of eight thousand words and interesting to see what the trade think versus us lot. It took a big slice of last week up, making Monday bonkers.
To start the day, I was up early and went off to collect a Honda Accord 2.0i to use while mine was being serviced (£400+ ouch! new cat, new down pipe, pads, oil, new sunroof switch, 215,000 miles, still able to show 127mph on the GPS speedo) and then I had to go off to the awesome link car collection and infinity wall studio to take a peek at the major Fusion shoot taking place there. It’s the ‘˜toy box’ of the King of the Lugs or Lock Up Garages. Over ten million quid’s worth of cars and that’s just one location. Mostly taxed and on trickle charge, it made my nipples hurt.
Fusion had Debbie ‘Dee’ O’Reilly and Rebecca ‘Bubs’ Webb as their Fusion models, all dolled up in Fusion spandex to be snapped in the wicked Fusion cars for the UK but more with some new products for the N Zedders. As down under they are more keen on girls in their ads than the Europeans, I was told. On the way to the location I was called by Radio 2 and although I had been grinning inanely at Jeremy Vine from the front row of the recent Drive to Digital conference at the BBC Broadcasting House only days before, Jezza was on his hols and it was Vanessa Feltz I was on air with. That was half past one in the afternoon and I went to the Luton BBC 3CR studio rather than make my own way to the posh Weston House in town. Much less glam, much more cost effective and all sorts of folks heard it.
Just before going to Luton, I wrestled with seven grand’s worth of Monitor Audio Gold GX speakers I was testing for Home Cinema Choice magazine. (Successfully sold by the way, I still have a job!) Came back and had to finish packing them for the courier at three. Then do some copy edits as asked by the M.E.N. mag guys and slap the huge awards copy on our site for you lot to check out. A quick letter about subwoofers for the HCC guys and still didn’t get this done!
But things are still looking busy. I have the JBL MS subwoofer in the box with most of the bones written, just awaiting opinion and have had a Fusion bass system waiting in the wings which I won’t jinx by bragging but it will be next.
And after that mad day, I got up all spandy early again to take the car back and get my own, which is running beautifully and I still adore.
