Review by Adam Rayner
The Fusion Full Range three-way ovals are a good looking product and at £40 represent good VFM. At 25% less than that for buying them as part of the Encounter EN-4CNR four corner pack, they are a ten for value. The sound is not delicate or ‘hifi’ so much as rather aggressive, powerful and meaty. Bass is very good for the size of the speaker. I played proper Bass CD music through them via a posh amplifier and also the Encounter EN-AM6004 four channel unit they can be sold with (in the pack) and with both, they played the deepest tones and moved plenty of air. Their sound in the high frequencies might get a bit tiring to the ears at long exposure but for ripping tunes out of the windows on the street and being able to hear all the twiddly bits producers put into urban and dance music, they are a hoot. Seriously keen image projected when played in the test 6×9 boxes (incidentally provided by Fusion’s Area 51 a while back, but no influence as to outcome here, honest!) they will thump and trill a treat in a good wood parcel shelf but will be even better if you bother to enclose them. Very few people will do so, but they are potent boxed. I liked the looks of the chassis with the silvery chrome finish and the rubber boot around the magnet is a nice touch, making the whole look a bit classier than you really paid for, which is nice.
Not about hearing the fifth triangle on the left but well able to entertain and delight for the cash, these really are a good option for that first 6×9 purchase and definitely better than many other entry level products sold at a similar or even higher price. Will whup most £50 ovals easily – and you get the cool Fusion brand image to boot.
