Modified Nationals 2013

The Modified Nationals car show is now in its eleventh year and the scene, while contracting, is getting higher and higher quality all the time. OK, it might lack some of the more fun nutter pauper entrants with comedy cars, who just cannot afford the hobby any more but the sun shone upon us like it has not for years and years and all the after show comment and stuff pouring out across social media has been glowing golden like amber.

A glorious time was had by all. On the Saturday, I hung with the boys from the dB Drag Racing Association and the Propper Droppers nutters, who have now got a Belgian arm of their competition format. On the Sunday, I was working strictly for the man Andrew ‘Roo’ Ackerley and the European Mobile Media Association UK or EMMA. There was a bit of commentating from me but also there was some MAJOR collecting of photography and video. For this time, what with promoter’s daughter, the lovely Shelly J and her bloke DJ Ritchie Don being in an adhesive fiancée situation, Ritchie sorted it all and I am now longer needed on the outdoor stage. I got my fix on the indoor stage with prize giving, though&;

Thus, I got to return to the roots of my original commentator gig and best of all, I got features.

I hosed down the awesome twice-Euro-winning SQ install from legend Andy Blanch and also shot feature-sufficiency photography of the insane Vibe Hearse and the new Team Ice killer 160dB Ground install in a Volvo 850 from Mark Smith.

In recent times, I’ve been getting evidence that reading deep into thousand words of article is less cool than LOTS of pictures and video. So in the week of the five-year longest ever opening ‘This Week’ column on Talk Audio, I hereby present a different and entirely Kinetic approach, with brevity.

First, here is some video work. Starting with the couples, the Folies A Deux of Car Audio. Real, actual lurve blossoming amongst the subwoofers.
You’ll get the drift as you watch. My sadness was the deep shyness of the dude in the ML Mercedes’ wife. Them and Liam ‘Bass’ Bradley escaped my clutches alone, as you will hear at the end, as the voice over from me refers to another couple we don’t get to see.

Now, some daft random bassness and a cool hair trick – I summoned a film crew across the whole showground to do this!

So now, click the slideshow and read the captions, for instead of more from me, I just tell you what you see&;
