New Generation Road Angel: Meet Gem +

To my undying shame, I had missed the fact that TomTom had licensed the Road Angel speed camera and blackspot database to use in their navigation systems ooh about a year ago proving that their database has real teeth and is updated with great aplomb to be the most meaningful around.
One thing the Road Angel folks have always done is to have a ‘˜community’ thing going on where you can upload and update ‘˜live’ locations, speed limits and details to be considered at data hub for inclusion in new updates as well as alert other Road Angel users in real time. I have seen my Road Angel Vantage eat and digest the existence of the new cameras on gantries over the M1 and seen SPECS average speed camera systems come and go from the database. (Never knew the camera van that got me, was ‘˜live’ near me though and was NOT paying attention as I WAS warned. That was a 36mph felony and an £85 ‘˜So Johnny can have a jaaaaab!’ cash cow speed awareness course!)
Anyway, there’s a new device on the block and it looks so cool, I just HAVE to try it RIGHT Out!!!
Road Angel Polishes a Gem of a Product
With the launch of the Gem+, Road Angel has further improved the UK’s most advanced speed camera locator.
In addition to its market-leading accuracy of its warnings of approaching safety cameras, its new soft-touch design, up to date road speeds, and improved user interface, Gem+ provides a unique eAssist feature allowing drivers to connect directly to the emergency call centre in the event of an accident.
Produced in the UK the Road Angel Gem+ in addition to all the usual features and functionality drivers demand of a highly specified speed management device, uses mobile phone technology that not only allows users to automatically receive regular system updates and share the locations of ‘˜live’ safety camera vans, but also lets users make suggestions to new or revised road speeds.
The feature is called SpeedShare„¢ and it utilises the vast Road Angel community to create the most up-to-date, digital road-speed map of Britain.
Additional features include Vehicle and Road Categorisation which allows drivers to tailor their alerts to suit the vehicle they are in. This means that the new Road Angel Gem+ will adapt alerts based on a drivers chosen vehicle e.g. car, caravan or lorry and provide different alerts when in a built up area than when driving on a dual-carriageway or motorway.
Plus the new Hot Alerts function warns drivers of areas where there is a high volume of mobile cameras.
