Race For Freedom

I do follow the finest motoring babes on Facebook, Like Michelle Westby and Fee D-B and one utter nutter of huge charisma, wonderfully wicked turn of phrase and deeply held views on what is right and wrong is former WREN, Petty Officer Fiona Laing. (Soo tempted to add the deeply politically incorrect extra letter in there) Of Scots extraction, living in Devon these days, she’s also an angler. What’s not to adore? Nick Harvey, former Armed Forces minister found out what, on Remembrance Sunday last year in her town, as Fiona strolled up to him and gave him his miserly-claimed previous year’s petrol expenses of £7.20 back to him in small change! It made the newscaster’s video, who taped it, go viral! Fiona said, ‘I gave him £7.20 which was the amount he claimed for petrol to attend last year’s ceremony. I thought it was disgusting that he had the cheek to claim that, as he had a moral duty to attend, not a financial cost to reclaim.’ before adding, ‘It went national, even David Icke blogged about it. It’s on YouTube, it made the no.1 story here in North Devon!’
She’s a firebrand and a cool babe and is raising money for forces’ children’s charities by running a European car rally and getting to go motoring with lots of excellent people. A big responsibility and a big effort. I am a fan, pure and simple and believe in what she is doing. And as she is a keen car and car audio bod who runs a Pioneer car system and upgrades the head unit in every car she gets, I am happy to put her story here as news.

Race for Freedom was set up by Fiona Laing and Lance Corporal Jan Newland to raise funds for Royal Navy & Royal Marines Children’s Fund and the RMCTF (Royal Marine Charitable Trust Fund). Their initial target was to raise £5,000 but they have managed to achieve that in just six weeks. Fi and Jan are leading a team of twenty-four serving and former service personnel and service supporters over a seven day rally over the Pyrenees and across Andorra. The full route can be found on the website link and updates via our face book page link
All the cars are decaled-up and there are NO admin costs in this rally, with 100% going to the two charities. (BRAVISSSSE! ED!) All the sweatshirts, tee-shirts, logos, leaflets, banners, etc. etc. have all been donated free of charge by former armed forces members who now run their own companies.
