Orion HCCA 6.2
A two-way component speaker system with separate tweeter units, midbass drivers and passive crossovers. Complete with a mounting kit to fit the tweeters in more than one application and screws and fixings. The midbass drivers are a very shallow and light weight design and look and feel as if they might sound it. (They don’t!) These come with passive crossovers that may be bi-wired or bi-amped where you affix two sets of speaker leads to the inputs of the passive, possibly even from two different single channels of a multi-channel amplifier. There are extra terminals on the passive for this. The passives also have light bulb style fuse-lamps within them to protect the tweeters and save them from Death Through Hooliganism as this set is aimed to go with the weapons-grade Orion HCCA subwoofers. They feature a 12dB per Octave tweeter filter and a gentler 6dB per Octave slope for the midwoofers in what’s called a Zobel design.
The tweeters are loaded with Ferrofluid which cools and damps the voice coil to allow for high power handling and the magnets are all are Neodymium. The mids have dual Nickel plated squeeze terminals to affix bare ended speaker wires. The set arrives with classy Allen headed fixings and Allen key to fasten them with as well as a window sticker.

These components would score very badly on the Donald Gennaro scale. The accountant in Jurassic park who gets eaten. Kid finds night vision binoculars under seat and accountant tells him they are expensive if they are heavy so put them away. These are super light and their performance means that Ron Dennis of McLaren would LOVE them. They are monstrously powerful for their light weight and are one of the first Neodymium magnetted midbass drivers that truly backs up its boast of high power sound from a wee weight of speaker. The chassis is very rigid and pretty in red, too, and has a shallow mounting depth as well, which is part of what makes this set of speakers so remarkable. Nice squeeze terminals on the mid, too.
The tweeters are no slouches either and are good big domes. The have passives with bi-wire or bi-amping facilities, so you can have two sets of speaker cables going into them as inputs, either from the same amp or else using four channels of amps to drive your components passively. The sound was just huge and meaty with real Yankee muscle. Designed to keep up with the unbelievable Orion HCCA woofers, these components bloody stonk!
The notes read ‘big and ballsy and in yer face!’ and so they are about power rather than ultimate refinement and the huge lows from so shallow and light a driver are just remarkable. Very efficient, if you want a heavy loud install and need a set of components to keep up, these can be they. Utterly daft not to get these if you want to run HCCA woofers, it’s a marriage made in Orion heaven.
