Week Thirty-Eight I Forget The Speakers For A Mate!
Bizarre but true, I have a friend who is a top end Outback Trucker. I had thought it was HE who had counted in ‘˜points’ to be allowed to emigrate to Australia but no, it was his wife Mel, with her real estate qualifications that clinched it! John was the lad who had the 155dB Mmats Juggernauts in his tiny red car. It was all box and fifteens and mad huge amps out the back. It also had air suspension and could pump up and down and lean side to side. For his Max Power feature shoot, I took him to where we might find a real juggernaut. The A1/M25 junction services at South Mimms. The lorry park thereof.
And sure enough, a HUGE truck arrived and as we went and asked him about if we could use his truck as a backdrop for our shoot, he told us that he was just the ballastfor a MASSIVE crane on a truck, about to arrive. This behemoth was bonkers and so huge it had been on Blue Peter and Record Breakers on TV AND IT TOO HAD HYDRAULIC SUSPENSION! Hilariously, we had it tipping and leaning in the same silly ways as the car in the shots.
The car looked like it was frankly bonking the Tarmac when it was pumped on the rears only and I made a call to Spearmint Rhino and got him sponsored. He drove around Birmingham with full Rhino graphical livery all over the car and even ended up being hired by the club. But that was an episode so bonkers, that he left it behind, came to London and met his wife!
So, Melanie blames me happily! Thing is, I have a set of his speakers I looked after when he buggered off and although Mel has come home from Down Under but briefly for family reasons, I was supposed to meet up with her as she was in Essex and take the speakers. I trundled off today and totally forgot to take them with! So I have to fetch them out of the loft and deliver them, having come home! They are a set of Focals, the lad has taste. And still lots of car audio knowledge. Each of the three car audio places he has popped in to visit asked if he might go to work for them. Although he loves the stuff, there is no way that car audio can compete with the money in the mining industry! Already promoted, John is doing well as a deported pom and they seem to love him! I am so proud of that man! Here’s to fine tunes under Australian skies, dude.
Right, better got fetch the speakers then! Ahh.. gottem! Off to drop them at her parents’!
