Week Forty-Two I Had Accounting To Do…

Well, last week’s casting call worked a treat. I wrote it here, flung it social media there and tagged the Tall Man in on it. Of course, producer/filmmaker man loved him and along with a few others, Ian ‘Iceman’ Pinder spent a few hours sitting around in the rain in an insalubrious part of London’s urgent, throbbing conurbation it was ‘˜Ackney Wick overground train station to film a bit for Channel 4. Something about Baseline
And today is Columbus Day in the OOO ESS AYY! So, well done upon being found! A big halloo to my chum in Ohio with a Dodge Charger, lots of ink and a car fettler for a fellah with huge beard and monster ear ring thingies, as well as my Texan Ranger’s Daughter, who are both getting a day off today.
I had had a huge backlog of accounting to do (mostly receipts for pies at car shows) as well as two major outings to sort last week, hence the lack of any extra stories since Wk 42. But I have got them done and the trip one was to see the JL Audio guys about the TW1 woofer and resulted in some sweet footage. The second was a foray to Car Audio & Security, whereat I nagged Rino Rosato to help me present videos of Rockford stuff as I related last Tuesday. Then, I went and got a THING fitted to my car on Wednesday. (This is starting to sound like a Craig David song.) It is hugely controversial. I have had one of these THINGS here for ages but was so sure my car was going to be changed that I hadn’t yet fitted it. After going to look at that T5 and my 940 sailing through its MOT, I decided I wanted to get it done and in the event, a new distributor was the impetus, with a press release to follow.
And lastly and sadly in two directions, a story of scarily shoddy wiring in a car audio system as seen above. Posted on FB by someone, with a simple exclamation that this was done by a shop in a certain town. It is vile and bad practice and maybe dangerous and utterly shocking if ANY soi-disant professional was purported to have fitted it thus. However, the second sadness is that one shop was blamed and a whole thread of vitriol unleashed. I was gripped, as while home fitters make horrendous cock ups and God knows, I did in mine you don’t expect the professional installer to ever do anything like that.
I downloaded the picture. I called the business. A family run one these last forty five years. With a 90%+ rating on TrustPilot for being hench of response speed to orders, informative and non-pushy of advice and especially for being mercurially quick of warranty service without a quibble should a faulty item arise. I sent them the picture and we opened it on media viewer. He told me that what is clearly oval or ‘˜flat’ power wire is an easily identifiable brand that they do not sell. Furthermore, even in the interests of a sensible sale, let alone a good job, they would always supply a power distribution block, fused if it was live, anyway. They have never, would never, ever solder a power system like this. ‘I have never, ever in my life seen anything like it!’ said the man! I contacted the sharer and he was just sharing in disgust. I contacted the original poster and he said it was difficult to trace as it was years ago.
So, we had an unascribed picture, from years ago, being blamed on a reputable car audio company that have been going 40 years and have lasted while lots of others have gone, and lots of folks joining in, with anger. A few tried the ‘I am more pious, balanced and sane than thee, so shall point out that it might be an earth and thus not so dangerous’ schtick, or that the insulting tape somehow got peeled off. All I can see is the rub marks the metal has made on the MDF false floor, untrimmed in this shot.
Which is also why I do not think it is as described by those on the Facebook thread. Just goes to show how fast a YOU BASTARDSSSSSSS thread can build and is just exactly what that horrible bunch who think the UK Nazi Party are a bit mild for their tastes and are claiming to be the biggest political party on Facebook, are doing with pictures of starving dogs and hijacking shots of Lee Rigby much to the enraged horror of his family. Do not simply take all the stuff you see on ANY media at face value.
Except of COURSE, Talk Audio Magazine!
Oh and by the way, Joe ‘Da Earthquaker’ Ajii would have turned just forty today, rest his soul. Unless of course by now he has been reincarnated as that Blue Whale, so he can blow bass across the ocean at 188dB of 20Hz. BAWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Miss you, Joe. x
