Greetings From the Las Vegas CES Press Room

Well, I made it!
The press room is bristling with computers and Toshiba have supplied the press bags again but they are the type without wheels and have a far smaller capacity than previously, so after stealing a bundle of notepads (it’s so nice to pose with them on reporter missions as it kind of states that you are a CES player) and freeloading a bunch of fizzy pop, the damn thing’s full, even before I go and swag all the promo stuff I will need to pick up. DOH!
Plus it’ll be an arm breaker and my tripod won’t go in it. I purposely left the ones I had at home behind rather than use one as hand luggage and carry it home again but this has backfired. Sounds pathetic but it’s going to be a little harder work. Hey, I might even burn a few more calories doing it.
I got up nice and early and it was just as well as all the bagels had all but gone by the time I got in at eight o’ clock – the Americans start early and they opened at seven in the morning!

However, as one has to adjust time zones anyway, it shouldn’t be so hard to sort out to do this every day and this seems like the best ‘early bird’ plot to both swag breakfast and a place in the press room pooter-array as well.
TO WORK…
So far, I have already discovered that the real story of this year’s CES for us will be that of the Internet and TV properly going mobile. Clarion’s Mobile Internet Navigation Device (MiND) is a hottie.
They are even about to start broadcasting TV in a new ‘mobile’ way rather than trying to make terrestrial TV signals hit your aerial in the car. That is of course as American as Sirius sattelite radio but it’s a sign of what’s to come for us perhaps one day.
Meanwhile, Son of Boomzilla’s design is nearing completion and one of my loveliest mails to open up in recent times was the latest work from Julian Sewell, the artist – who’s work can be seen if you enter the hitherto ‘secret’ URL of link
I’m off to go get stuck in, wish me luck!
