iPod Eaters and new amps from RE Audio
Well, last night I went out to try and record a few bits of video stuff and the Canon ‘Pro-sumer’ camera that has done us so well here on TA had a death throe and told me to restart the camera as it had a ‘Lens Fault’. So today, I will have to fling off to the super-duper cheapie factory mall and try to get a replacement…
Here’s a couple of atmos shots first. The new silvery horse in the amazing lobby of the Belaggio (had dinner overlooking the fountains as guest of Acoustic Wood – WOW!)
The mad copy of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris (I saw it being built, complete witha graffito that said simply “NON!”) And me with two pics-for-tips lasses in showgirl costumes I found in the New York New York. Mmmmmmm! 
Meanwhile, here is the latest product stuff from the day before…
The Boss stand had some well cool and affordable iPod headunit solutions. One can eat the pod – a lot like the Fusion beastie but with a simple retainer rod rather than a series of sets of plastic housings to cope with the different types. I have no idea how stable it’ll be so perhaps we must get one in and play with it on the road as such.
Another has a tray that slides out and the ‘Pod sits in it vertically, which is clever, too.
Meeting up with Tony Dalton-Richards of er TDR) we went off into the Hilton Hotel, where RE Audio had a room to show off their new amplifers designed by Dirk The Amp, a legendary aristo in the trade here who has been with US Amps for twenty years.
The new RE Audio XT amps have the same power (well actually they found they were about twenty percent more meaty than they expected!) and look better and yet will sell at the same price.
The VLX amps are all new too and Tony who is an electronics engineer was discussing the finer points with Dirk and left me way behind but I gather they will all have clear base plates and internally ribbed heatsinks for better dissipation generally. The big deal is their enhanced efficiency and thus low current draw. the baddest one has a bigger row of 40A blade fuses than I have ever seen.
Also, they have a new flat woofer series to compete with the likes of Diamond, JL and so forth.
Lastly – an odd one but still very In-Vehicle, just a different one, was via a guy I met on the bus who was from famous stage back line amplifier and speaker makers, Peavey. I went into the South hall to snap these….
They have not got into car stuff but they have some Wakeboarding speakers for marine use that really rock. They would make great outside-of-demo-car speakers for show use. Very heavy duty and shiny, they use two inch compression drivers with one inch industry standard throats so they really squirt the HF. The lows and mids are taken care of either three-way or two-way depending on which model you have. Not cheap!
I will wobble off to the mall now and go get another Big Chisel (large pointy work tool.)
