When I started this car audio writing and show presenting stuff, I was in my twenties and some lads recall me from back then, who were in their early teens, some not even yet allowed to drive. Just for being still here, I got a Lifetime Achievement Award from the trade and get called Mister on line! I have even been called ‘˜legend’ by those who knew me when they were fourteen and are now thirty!
But to a lad in a hot and boring warehouse, listening to a blithering twat who seems like he’s not quite engaged, while a bunch of grown men in shirts replace a blown up wooferin fact whole test rig, taking an hour to do so, I was just dull.
It was the soi-disant T-20, held at the Midbass warehouses, with myself heavily amplified through the EMMA battle wagon, so I could not be ignored. However, I did not fully ‘˜get’ how unique that tiny crowd was. I had thought it was JUST the sound off goers, who may have heard most of the material before and so was not off on the Evangelical Bass Tip, with the accounts of ‘˜loud’ and what it really means. Referencing clubs, road drills, cars backfiring and even an old legendary aircraft. I was sad our leader was not among us and a little fretty, I guess, despite a daft selfie I took!
And in an pure Emperor’s New Clothes way, he asked who the Boring Old Fart was, on Facebook and got it in the neck from a bunch of folks. I gave him a bit of grief then took a step back. Thing is, this dude is keen on the stuff I love, we ALL love. I care that I failed him. And the folks who paid my gas to be there. So instead of being a BOF, I decided to come over all bua ha-ha and mighty instead and bestow upon him, some of the reason he went to look.

Now sadly, although a closet love and a guilty pleasure for many, the Fusion brand is not as cool and trendy as it once was here in Blighty. Yet the bass kit I have packed unbelievably well, to send him, is hench.
