Alcosense Warn Of The Morning After

The UK’s most well known and most accurate consumer-use breathalysers are made by Alcosense.  There are three models to choose from called Alcosense One, Lite and Elite and they have been raved about by TV and the press.
I was recently invited along to see the thing in action. First a slightly artificial night of merriment was planned. We were taken to a posh Gastro pub and fed triple fried Heston Blumenthal chips (peak of whole experience for me) and offered whatever we wanted to drink with our meal. We had a film crew in attendance and I had to admit that as a true lightweight drinker I was kind of the Control for the experiment.

Amongst various journalists, including some sweeties from the Alan Titchmarsh show there was an old mate, Martyn Williams, a man well seasoned on press jolly ups and known to enjoy a party.
After the meal, we were ferried to a hotel where we had a whole presentation from a famous cocktail mixologist and taught how to blend, ‘build’ and layer cocktails using his recipes and the specific gravities of each booze or syrup. I wimped out before the later night revelry involving a set of casino games and a Nintendo Wii but it’s fair to say a lot of booze flowed.

Amazingly, Martyn had detoxed the lot and registered as ‘low’ and I didn’t register at all. But one of the lasses who had taken the exercise to heart was still well and truly over the drink drive limit that next morning.
So don’t be in the 17% of next-day drink drive convictions, if you are planning a heavy New Year’s and need to check yourself the next morning, then I’m with the rest of the Great and the Good who suggest that the purchase of one of these proven-accurate devices is an essential, not a luxury.
