ALPINE & APPLE CARPLAY: TALK AUDIO EXCLUSIVE
Talk Audio SCOOP! Always at the leading edge of in car technology, Alpine Electronics of Japan are to be the first at providing the ability to fully integrate Apps from Apple into the car via Apple CarPlay. The system was first mooted for OEM use and talked about at the International CES last January but at the time, no aftermarket supplier was saying anything about being involved. Yet it has to be certain that to announce readiness to ship in the Autumn of this year. (It’s what we call, ‘Fall’ here in Blighty, for my readers overseasby the way, ‘Hello Alaska!’) then they had to be close to finished and ready to rock last January.

Alpine Electronics to Release Aftermarket Products that Support Apple CarPlay Products for American and European Markets to Debut in Fall 2014: Iwaki, Japan — April 15, 2014
Alpine Electronics, Inc. today announced that it will offer aftermarket products compatible with Apple CarPlay, further enhancing the connectivity between the iPhone and Alpine’s in-vehicle environment. Alpine is one of the first aftermarket manufacturers to announce that it will have products compatible with CarPlay. (ed’s italics)
The Alpine audio/video system will seamlessly incorporate CarPlay to extend your iPhone experience to the vehicle. Users can easily control CarPlay from Alpine’s large, in-dash touch screen, or just activate Siri to enjoy CarPlay without distraction. CarPlay enables drivers to seamlessly make calls, use maps, access music or receive and send messages. Using a Lightning connector, CarPlay works with iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5 running the latest version of iOS 7.
‘For more than a decade, we have worked with Apple to produce products that integrate their technology into our car entertainment and information products. Our new CarPlay-enabled products represent the next step in providing users a seamless iPhone experience in the vehicle,’ said Hirofumi Morioka, Alpine’s Senior Director and CTO.
Alpine’s first CarPlay compatible products will be available for the American and European aftermarket later in 2014. Model numbers and pricing will be announced at the time of launch.
