BCSS Open Day
If you have never been to an open day at a car audio shop, you have missed some cool events. The very fact a dealer has the clout and sense to run an open day usually means they have got some demo cars lined up to attend. This will, by its nature mean you get a better chance at a nice long sit inside and listen to some of the best cars around, without it being at a show with huge foot fall and greater pressure for the exhibitors.
The latest one was at BCSS Brian Car Sounds in Coulsdon in Surrey on the same site as used to be Sound Offs. Oddly, while the former complained about the bypass killing off the passing trade he had relied upon, the BCSS boys make the world beat a path to their door with their excellence in fabrication and skills all round. They sell detailing stuff and exhausts and tyres and rims as well as predominantly audio kit.
They are a FOUR Master dealer and also a Vibe top-knobber outfit as well. Being a leading dealer for Vibe means they are always in possession of the kit on day one when it is released by pre-shipping so the dealer gets a chance to sell the item on the day before any internet buyer can get hold of it.
There were demo cars there from Vibe of course, and Four, obviously, as well as JL Audio and Alpine and others built by BCSS, including the bonkers Massive Audio Escort van. Just amazing!
There was a prize unequalled in coolness in the history if UK ice, too! There have been some amazing giveaways in the past but a full system of amp, fronts and subwooferage.. get this, with guaranteed any-car installation as part of the prize, has never been done. Not just the gear but the labour and fitting materials, whatever it takes to sort out. Bloody brilliant of BCSS and all in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.
I had great fun, nagging and generally getting in folks faces to sell raffle tickets and had help with the draw to decide who got the stuff. The first prize was the full system of Hertz gear, the second was a sexy Alpine single CD tuner with Bluetooth head unit and the third prize was £50 of Meguiars detailing (car cleaning) stuff that they also sell, since they deal with so very many show cars of their own creation!
All in all a very successful day out, their second but definitely not their last. The guys at BCSS really are that old school second generation and could be called “B. Steer & Son, Fettlers of Fine Automobiles”. The quality of the workmanship that they put out is top drawer and I was proud to have been there. Thanks ever so much guys, here’s to next year!
