Product Details

Typical Selling price: £109.00
Passive subwoofer box with carpet covering and embroidered Blaupunkt branding. There is a hole right through the centre of the round and squat enclosure, such that you can mount it by design into your spare wheel well, in place of a spare. You are meant to carry a tube of puncture repair goo instead. It features two Polypropylene coned six by nine oval drivers as pure woofers and each has a four Ohm voice coil connected to the outside world by dint of paired squeeze post speaker wire terminals. The top is a baffle mounted such that it acoustically ‘˜loads’ the output of the six by nines, making then very efficient at 93dB.
The unit was tested on a the bass output of a Pioneer DEH-P88RSII CD deck head unit, driving an Infinity Kappa four channel amp playing some Alpine six by nines and a Clarion APX1301E monoblock bass amplifier. In time, I also included the Earthquake MB1 bass doubler into the circuit as that has just been in the review system.

Editor Review : Blaupunkt THs 6902 Spare Wheel Well Passive Subwoofer Enclosure
I will freely admit, I was ready for a compromise. This product is meant to replace a spare wheel and add some bass. It has a little alcove to house a Plug N Play amplifier called a THA 1250 from the Blaupunkt stable but I put a solid 400 watts into the box! I was expecting to overload it, maybe even blow it up if I was not careful so I proceeded with trepidation.
At first I left the mad Bass CD in the deck but soon found it went down to such silly frequencies that I did find the unload and complain point of the unit. But then I slapped in Frankie Goes to Hollywood, with that lovely huge fat analogue bass guitar riff as the main melody.
I was utterly face slapped! This little enclosure is really, really good! It is boundary-loaded like fine home HiFi woofer sections by Polk, Magnat, even Bowers & Wilkins. Two really meaty ovals with big surface area for their size, nice and efficient and powered against the woodwork and like explosives, the compressed energy takes on some real power.
I was loving the bass so much I tried a moment of devilry. I hooked in the Earthquake MB1 bass doubler! It was insane. I wicked back the test rig ovals and you could be clear that while the full range ovals were doing some bass, the THs 6902 was performing like a high quality ten-in-a-box and eating the entire 400 watt output of the very clean Clarion APA1301E mono amp with ease.
It might not have the bonkers SQ of that JL audio single eight in a box but by cripes does it clear yer pipes! Good to look at with its pretty embroidery, cunning design features like the alcove fitting for an amplifier, astonishing rich fat bass from a small and cleverly ready-to-hide space and then it’s just over £100,making it one hell of a ready to rock bargain!
If you want bass, you know you have to compromise yet don’t want to, this bass box will startle you to your roots. It won’t break windows, it won’t break the bank, but you WILL break into a broad grin.
And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?
As the Germans say that’s Absolut Spitzenclasse, or in Britspeak, State of the Art mate!
