Cerwin-Vega! Back in the UK

I will confess that when I met Gene Cerwinksy’s daughter some twenty years ago at a dinner in Las Vegas at the CES, I was smitten! A powerfully good looking woman, that she was world-class speakers aristocracy was also part of it. For I will happily admit that I have a soft spot here. Not to do so is to lie and I don’t do that, as otherwise each review opinion is worthless. Likewise confessing when I cock up in a test; funny, embarrassing and obvious that it HAS to be true as the faults, eff-ups and small electric shocks, along with blown up stuff is just plain FUNNY!
Anyway, back in the Nineties, Cerwin-Vega was a product of its time. The then amplifiers for cars had no more than a true 300 watts a channel. The Mighty Hifonics Colossus was a true 2 x 300 watts RMS at 4 Ohms which made a brute! Compare with a mighty Ground Zero, SPL Dynamics or Black Death Reaper amp and chuckle but then, to make bigger bass, you needed woofers that made more for each watt they got.
Some bloke in the charts of dance music Bomb the Bass was quoted about how thrilled he was to be changing his JBL woofers for Cerwin-Vega! ones in his parcel shelf. And they had and do still have, (I hope) their very own rich fat flavour of low frequencies. I recall being blown away by a Cerwin-Vega pro P.A. rig with ‘˜Earthquake’ bins that had horn flanges that folded out and secured with flight case butterfly clips. They played a track I have never ever heard as satisfyingly since. I still have it, try it and find the track doesn’t work as well as it did on that system I heard that day.
Anyway, C-V was here in the UK with ProPlus Audio and now has found a new home, at G7 Direct, which despite the name is about direct to dealers as they want to find and nurture just a few select folks to have Cerwin-Vega! as their power bass brand.
Since these news stories are available for so long on our database, I will include the link to the holding page of their website under construction here: link
But if you just want to find out what they have and how much it’ll cost you, do call their retail operation on 01635 47656 and tell them the Fat Man Sent You. The guys to talk to are either Gavin or Terry
