dB Drag Welcomes Visitors To GTi International

With prime location right by the entrance, dB Drag UK was there to welcome all visitors to the 2009 GTi International show. And what a show!
Saturday was the relaxed and easy-going day that was promised beforehand. Regular competitors got as much time as they liked on the Term-Lab sensor (SPL measuring kit) and non-regulars were welcomed over to run their cars and see what numbers they were throwing up. It’s astonishing just how many cars out there are doing over 135dB, with a fair batch capable of 140dB plus. That’s ear-splitting bass.

Sunday and the pace upped a bit with a few more regular competitors turning up ready for the big competition of the day, the ever exciting BassRace. Before the knockouts got underway there was the qualifying as well as a chance to have an official dB Drag score recorded. Two cars really stood out, Team Adassa hit a rather impressive 157.8dB with their Panda – twenty thousand watts and two 15in subs. This isn’t a daily driver, (but it was driven to the show) doesn’t ‘do’ BassRace but he sure as hell gets those subs loud.
BassRace is the real crowd pleaser. The competitive 139.9dB class ranged from 139.7dB to 139.9dB in qualifying, so we could see it was going to be a close one! The crowds poured in and two by two the competitors lined up and controlled their nerves and their volume for thirty seconds with one coming out victorious. Aaron Sandy had a brilliant day hitting 139.9dB all day long except for one run. His 139.8dB was not his downfall though, as it was a tied round and his second shot saw another 139.9dB pop up, knocking out his opponent, and giving him the victory. You can check out BassRace in action here:

Once 139.9dB was done, it was time for LoudVanMan to show everyone what a seriously loud BassRacer does. A couple of big amps, a brace of 15in subs and a BassRace run of over 152dB. That’s an average of 152dB over 30 seconds. At peaks the van was pumping out 155dB! It’s the loudest BassRace vehicle in the UK, and it’s a VW. The GTi crowd were very happy with that.
Then, when we thought it was all over LoudVanMan had one more trick up his sleeve. A demo run, and a very antisocial demo run at that. With the door open and bass billowing out of his legendarily loud Van he managed an average of 155dB for 30 seconds. He was heard quite clearly from the other end of the show even with GTis roaring up the strip. Supreme bass. See a video of it below:

It’s a good job we were parked a long way from the perimeter noise level sensors this year!
Next up it’s the big T17 which is going to be HUGE! dBDrag UK will be there with dBdrag and BassRace. Best of all – it’s free!
