Digital Designs To Get UK Distribution

Hard core mobile electronics brand Digital Designs out of Oklahoma City, OK, USA has now gone from being a fanboy enthusiast-imported only brand to one with UK distribution.
Considering the UK fan base as an important asset, the Oklahomans took the trouble and effort to fly to the UK to exhibit at the recent Modified Nationals show in Peterborough, (Mind you, Todd Zier”, US ICE Aristocrat moved mountains to come see us, too) where Adam Rayner caught up with the boss Jassa Langford, who is their top engineering bod and asked him about their product and how they see the British market.

It transpires, for those of you who don’t know about DD, that their roots are in professional audio. Except that Jassa described their subs as being like “Pro audio drivers on steroids.”  Explaining, that “You gotta have enough energy product in a speaker to react to a signal. We use tighter tolerance voice coil gaps and bigger coils than most” and that at their top end the 9500g has multiple spiders with massive tinsel wires actually laminated between layers of spider suspension rather than woven into one layer and with as many as sixteen such wires and six layers of spider material on a four voice coil 1,500 watt RMS woofer!
Jassa added, “We are in a brutal market but we have the same dealers as fifteen years ago. We have fabulous loyalty from them and great relationships with our suppliers. We didn’t sell out to the cheaper route.” By way of explaining their approach to both engineering and business. All of which I can sum up simply, as Righteous.
Part of this attitude was proven by Jassa not merely flying over himself but also bringing Steve Milton, head of USA dealer sales and his son Charn, who is a major cog in the business now.
Jassa went on to explain why they eschew use of regular terminals, rather preferring users made the best low-impedance copper-to-copper connections directly. Since they discovered a tenth of an Ohm’s resistance in a normal-market ‘pot-metal’ terminal. At one half of a single Ohm of overall impedance possible as a load once multiple coils of say, a 9500 have been hooked up, this makes a real difference. They call these their Direct Connections.

And now, instead of individuals importing their own, there is to be a UK importer. It is early days and I know they haven’t got containers full of the stuff over here yet (not certain how they are going to operate at this point) but you can get in touch now and have a UK based hotline right to the top people in Oklahoma and a place to order them in the UK.
