ELIO – In The New Old Fashioned Way

As we dig decades into the 21st Century, tastes continue to go back to basics. Once upon a time, a house had a wireless. Then later, a television, always rented, right deep into the Eighties. By the nineties when Toshiba made a 4:3 pre widescreen cathode ray tube TV that weighed 76.5KG called the 3787DB it had become a centre of sound as well. It was massive and came with a subwoofer and surround speakers. These days, though, most people just want a thing. One thing, without the need to install wires in their home. No mass of plastic but rather an item that is part of the décor, made with quality materials like metal and wood.

PURE were one of the first makers to do this with their DAB home radios, with the legendary Roberts Radio company soon realising that classic old looks with modern digital innards was a big seller for them, too.

And now, we see serious HiFi brands making little compacts with sets of speakers no farther apart than the big ones that used to come with 80’s plastic stack systems. Folks would set them up in their homes exactly as they had seen them in the shops’ displays. This used to make the folks at Kenwood despair. They used to send people out to see customers and found them with the stack flanked by both speakers. And so it is now, except by elegant design and true high end sound quality and connectivity. So meet the Elio. It even has an extendable chromed telescopic radio aerial on the back… Press release below pics:

Tangent Audio is proud to announce the launch of a brand new table-top audio system boasting latest wireless technology, CD and radio functions and a stunning retro-look design.

High quality audio from any source: Tangent’s new Elio Stereo compact,
all-in-one system combines all possible music sources with a level of
sound quality that belies its size. This is achieved by two front facing full
range speaker drive units firing through two generous bass ports on the
rear panel of the MDF cabinet. These produce deep and precise bass to
ensure an impressive all round performance even in large rooms.
Further sound enhancement is also possible from a number of equalizer
presets, for tailoring the sound that best suits the preferred music genre.

Internet, DAB+ or FM Radio: The Elio Stereo satisfies all radio listeners
by offering FM, DAB / DAB+ platforms in addition to the ability to access
many thousands of radio stations around the world thanks to its Internet
radio function via a Wi-Fi connection.

Spotify, DLNA, Bluetooth and more: The Elio Stereo boasts numerous
wireless technologies to access music including Spotify connect,
Bluetooth for connectivity from a smartphone or tablet and Wi-Fi for
accessing music from servers or computers on a network via DLNA /
UPnP formats. An integrated CD player is also included together with
AUX and USB media wired inputs and a 3.5mm line output on the rear
panel.

Easy and convenient to use: The large colour or black & white dimmable
display to the front panel provides clear optional information from the
current music track played to your favourite photo, local weather,
current time and alarm clock. A remote control is also supplied for
convenient full operation of the many functions and music sources, or you can command directly from smartphones and tablets using the corresponding App (iOS and Android compatible), where you can easily
set up presets, switch sources, radio stations and much more.

Tangent’s new ELIO all-in-one audio system is available in the UK later
this month in Gloss Black and Walnut veneer finish options with an
aluminium front facia at £399.
