EMMA UK Team Fulll Of Win At Euro Finals
The UK arm of the European Mobile Multimedia Association are fresh back from a serious drive to Europe to take part in a huge sound off within an even huger exhibition in Germany. Around 150,000 souls go to this show in the German town of Nuremburg each year and this massive sound off, the finals of the whole of the European continent for EMMA (European Mobile Multimedia Association), is held there.
An impressive smattering of the cars that went and did well were folks that had never really had much sound off experience in the past, making their places won and achievements all the more impressive. The fact that the install in question was done by one of the UK’s most legendary SQ sound-off installers, Huets, has to be something do with that. These guys had the biggest and most successful team of all during the glory days of UK sound off. So Huets The In Car Specialists are particularly proud of their lad Phil Drouet, whose car sounds fabulous and scored very well indeed. Here’s what Peter Huet had to say in a mail to me immediately after Phil’s achievement, before he even got back to Blighty:
‘Congratulations to Phil Drouet in achieving a Top five place at the recent EMMA European Championships in Nuremburg, Germany. His EMMA National League win secured the invitation to attend this prestigious event, and the car represented the UK for Sound Quality. This is a great achievement for a competitor in their first year and Phil was competing against the best-sounding European cars from as far away as Finland, Russia, Switzerland and San Marino. With installations and equipment measured in tens of thousands of pounds, often with major alterations to the vehicles. The EMMA Final is the showcase for the Top 20 cars from Europe, and the competitors qualified by winning their respective leagues in their home countries.
Phil’s Mercedes E class stands out, as the installation by us (using our experience acquired over years, including winning European and national competitions in the past), has little impact on the car, utilising standard speaker locations with minor modifications. What is all the more remarkable is that the installation was not done with competition in mind, just to be a good sounding system for his daily driver. The installation was appreciated by the European Judges, achieving a Perfect 100 points score!
The system, which has been praised for its simplicity and excellence of execution, consists of the new Alpine IVA-D800 head unit and processor, Dynaudio component speakers and a JL Audio shallow subwoofer, all powered by a single JL Audio 450/4 Amplifier. The subwoofer is fitted into a small sealed box in the luggage compartment, and covered by a removable panel trimmed to match. The result is a system which is hidden from view, leaving the car as usable as before the installation. The front speakers (the rears are not used now) are mounted onto new baffles and concealed behind the factory grilles, with their tweeters mounted in the factory position on modified panels trimmed to match the car. The doors have been sound-deadened to improve the quality of the system and to reduce road noise.’
Impressive, Guv’Nor and once again, a solid accolade to the brilliance and concerted drive that Andrew Ackerley and his team and family alike have put into the scene all year. I know Andrew is planning all the way into 2013 right now. I will certainly do my very best to be there to report
