Car Audio

Enzo In A Sound Off

The single most exciting car audio shop in the UK for me, is Auto Audio in north west London.
They are cool for all the wrong reasons. Not because of the products they sell (they remain the most important distributor for Morel automotive product pretty much worldwide in terms of how many of their mad end limited edition sets they shift) no, it’s because of their clientele and the pant wettingly sexy cars they bring in.
Close enough to a main set of traffic arteries to be easily reachable from the centre of London, yet discreetly tucked away near the Central Middlesex hospital (and in fact the Ace Café) in a light industrial zone, Auto Audio have quietly attracted the ‘dream demographic’. Celebrities, the High Net Value types and even Enzo owners. In fact they have done four Enzos, which means one owner spoke to another as they tend to meet at track days I imagine…or in Italy. One mad fact – Auto Audio have to put the insurance up especially for ONE CAR for the period that any one Enzo is in there.
A big reason for this clientele’s presence also has to be the gravitas and gentle but utter authority of their chap John Colligan, who along with Greg Morris remains unfazed by the rich and famous. In fact it goes way deepeer than that as they don’t just sell them delicious kit like Macintosh (made by Clarion, you know….) and Morel, they also persuade them to enter their cars into the Sound Quality classes in the European Mobile Mulitmedia Association (or EMMA) sound off contests held at their premises every year – this is their fifth, although you can hear me get it utterly wrong in the video below!

As the car audio elite are not really car nuts per se, I don’t think many even knew that one car in their midst was worth £1.2 million (having doubled in value since manufacture) and I cannot help but wonder how scary it must be to work on such a high value car.
But this time to report on the contest, I figured the best way would be to hose it down with video, so welcome to a new look Talk Audio magazine event report….on camera!
