Ground Zero Ground Breaking Three-Ways!
This just in from Ground Zero in Europe. Apparently, they are seriously chasing the high end three way A-pillar brigade. Thus the high end likes of DLS, Morel and Pioneer ODR loudspeakers are in their sights. I’m gripped with wanting to find out just how badass these are. I definitely want to get at a set! What follows is the press release from The Ground Zero headquarters in Germany.
2014 Plutonium SQ Line set a new level in SQ!
New ‘Made in Germany’ High End SQ line to be launched step by step over the next months.
When Ground Zero launched the legendary Plutonium Speaker Line almost ten years ago, it didn’t not only set a new level for max SPL (we’re talking about a 6.5in component system!), it also won countless awards and reviews for Sound Quality too. To this day, the GZPC 165SX still holds rightful 1st place as ‘The Loudest High End Speaker System’.
So the benchmark for the 2014 Plutonium line up was clear: Using even better materials and top-notch engineering standards, the new products should even outperform our legendary 165SX loudspeaker. Plus they should offer very flexible configurations for either active or passive use and 2-way as well as 3-way setups.
Starting from the high frequencies, the new Plutonium Line utilises the 28mm/1.1in GZPT 28SX silk dome tweeter, which is based on the Reference 28 with its outstanding performance, with only minor changes being done to the dome coating, motor and rear chamber. The brand new GZPM 80SQX midrange, is an 80mm/3.15in driver, which uses a powerful neodymium motor as well as a high end magnesium cone. The wideband and detailed sound reproduction is significant. The brand new GZPK 16SQ, a 165mm/6.5in mid-woofer, rounds up the system. With its stiff and accurate damped aluminium cone which is ceramic anodised, this speaker performs absolutely precisely and powerful even up to 3,000Hz.
For both passive setups, 2 or 3-way, the 2014 Plutonium line offers new crossovers, using Mundorf Mcaps, high quality air coils and MOX resistors. And finally all of the drivers come in an exclusive wooden box, which is Made in Germany, the same as all the drivers.
Below the overview of the new Plutonium Line :

But Ground Zero have added one more special which kicked of the new Plutonium Line in December 2013 already: A strictly limited quantity of an outstanding 3-Way passive component system was launched: The GZPC 16.3SQ-LTD.
This system comes in a heavy duty suitcase and it’s based on the GZPC 16.3SQ, which will be available in Q1/2014. But the difference to its brother, is the extraordinary crossover made by Mundorf in Germany. The popular low-ohm and low-capacity Mundorf OFC copper-foil coils and the top of the line Mundorf Mcaps and Mresistors are just two of its highlights. All parts are mounted on a high quality fibreglass PCB with copper circuit and hand soldered with silver-tin. The very first review of this system was performed by the famous German Car & Hifi Magazine in its latest issue Jan/Feb 2014. The GZPC 16.3SQ-LTD isn’t only titled ‘BEST PRODUCT’, according to the editor, it is even the best-ever-tested speaker system!
