iPhone5 compatibility plans announced for Pioneer in-car products
Three iPhone 5 connectivity kits for in-dash products available in spring
Pioneer has announced three solutions that provide full connectivity between the iPhone 5 and the latest Pioneer in-dash receivers.
Pioneer announced at CES in Las Vegas that from Spring 2013, its AppRadio Mode-enabled products and the iPhone5 will be fully compatible. Until now, select functionalities of certain in-car head units have been incompatible with the iPhone5 due to the new 8-pin adapter but this has now been remedied.
When used with a compatible Pioneer in-dash receiver and an appropriate Apple Lightning adapter* accessory, the connectivity kit solutions enable iPhone5 users to access and control select apps via the in-dash touch screen display; playback and control of music and videos stored on the iPhone 5; and playback and control of compatible internet radio apps running on their iPhone 5 via the AppRadio and AppRadio Mode interface (previously Advanced App Mode). This enhances the existing Bluetooth connectivity between the iPhone5 and Pioneer in-dash receivers providing hands-free calling and, on select models, A2DP wireless audio streaming and control, from the steering wheel.
These connectivity kits are compatible with the SPH-DA100, 2012 AVIC-F40BT and AVIC-F940BT in-dash navigation receivers, the 2013 AVH-X5500BT, AVH X4500BT, AVH X3500DAB and AVH-X2500BT multimedia DVD receivers, as well as the 2012 AVH 8400BT multimedia DVD receiver.
Girish Janday, product executive at Pioneer, said: ‘We fully understand the importance of providing an iPhone5 compatibility solution that integrates with our revolutionary AppRadio and AppRadio Mode products. With maximum efforts from our product engineers, we have developed solutions that apply to a wide range of our in-dash products to meet our consumers’ expectations.’
Digital AV Solution
The CD-IH202 connectivity kit is an ‘all digital’ connection designed for use with the SPH-DA100 AppRadio. The kit includes a 2-metre automotive grade HDMI cable, which handles all audio and video transfer between the Pioneer products and the iPhone 5, and a 1.5-metre 17-pin to USB cable for charging the iPhone 5. To complete compatibility between the Pioneer AppRadio and the iPhone 5, consumers must also obtain Apple’s Lightning to USB Cable and Lightning Digital AV Adapter, as well as a firmware update from Pioneer (available in spring 2013 at no charge).
VGA Solutions
Pioneer also offers the CD-IV202AV (for use with 2013 multimedia DVD receivers and the AVH 8400BT) and CD-IV202NAVI (for use with 2012 in-dash navigation receivers). The VGA solutions include a proprietary connector cable and interface module to accomplish all audio and video transfer and a 1.5-metre USB cable for charging the iPhone 5. To complete compatibility between these Pioneer products and the iPhone 5, consumers must also obtain Apple’s Lightning to USB Cable* and Lightning to VGA Adapter*, as well as a firmware update from Pioneer for select 2012 and 2013 multimedia DVD and navigation receivers (available in spring at no charge).
