JL AUDIO Unveils Ultra-Premium C7 Component Car Speakers
These new high end loudspeakers caused something of a stir in Vegas to those as heard them at the JL Audio event they hold alongside the CES each year. They do NOT come with passive crossovers, as they are designed from the ground up to be used actively, posh-like. I am lucky enough to have visited the CES as well as this bonkers suite that JL use in the Palms each year and it is pure ‘˜Vegas. Two storeys of the hotel are used for each $10k+ per night suite and there is a small pool sticking out of the wall of the hotel, in this case, thirty-two floors up! It is so beyond the experience of a lad from London as to boggle the mind. So just before you check out the press release, check out the place they were launched in!
Las Vegas, NV’”Palms Casino Resort’”January 5, 2017’”JL Audio, an innovator in high-end audio solutions, unveils a new series of ultra-premium component speakers, designed for car audio systems. The introduction of C7 has been highly anticipated and will further solidify the JL Audio brand as a full-range car speaker company.
The C7 project was led by CEO and Chief Engineer, Lucio Proni, with a clear mission to create the finest-ever JL Audio component speakers. To achieve this, he established clear performance goals and assigned the engineering resources necessary to specify and develop each C7 speaker as a clean-sheet design.
‘C7 is an expression of our commitment to achieving the best reproduction possible in the car audio environment. These component speakers are the natural complement to our W6v3 and W7AE subwoofer drivers, and they offer listeners a level of fidelity and dynamic capability that is truly special.’ said Lucio Proni, CEO and Chief Engineer.
No detail or design element has been left unexamined in each of the C7 speakers: from the exotic, corundum ceramic-coated diaphragm of the C7 tweeter, to the C7 midrange speaker’s intricately machined motor, which significantly improves linearity. The C7 component woofer’s dust cap went through ten prototype generations before arriving at the solution that resulted in the smoothest response and the best mechanical integrity. These details, and hundreds of others like them, simply had to be perfect for Mr. Proni and the design team to be satisfied.
You will not find a passive crossover network in the C7 line. This is a completely deliberate omission. The designers assumed that systems built with C7 speakers would avoid technical compromises, so they designed the C7 speakers with active crossovers in mind. These duties will typically be handled by a high quality DSP, such as JL Audio’s TwK„¢ 88, or D8.
Using JL Audio’s guidelines for C7 setup as a starting point, the power of a DSP can be used to optimise the performance of the C7 speaker system to its specific application. The system designer can use delay, crossover parameters and precise equalisation to adjust for speaker placement, cabin acoustics and target response.
In the end, all these efforts lead to a spectacular musical presentation, easily exceeding the performance boundaries of typical, high-end, car audio speaker systems.
