Kicker is a Comen in, Loude Boom COOKOO!
Yes, we have a date and it is soon. The first consignment of KICKER car audio kit from the nutters of Stillwater in Oklahoma is coming to their new distributor, Celsus ICE. And best of all, the guys responsible have got with the program in a way that proves the difference between JL Audio and Kicker. For while JL Audio’s exec type Steve Turrissi described the bass from three meaty but slimline-chassis ten inch woofers as ‘being enough to hurt you’, he proved he doesn’t really breathe the boomer thing.
However, the ebullient Jon Griggs, DAB and practical installation solutions expert as well as product R&D tech at Celsus here in Blighty, is at heart a total bass head nutbag. And he has been given reign to design the new demo install for Kicker in the UK.
All I can tell you (as it really is all that I know) is that it is a ‘˜Caddy’. I do know that it will have five kilowatts of solid RMS bass output from two monstrous KX2400.1 monoblock amplifiers that will be puking bass into the coils of four mighty fifteen inch L7 subwoofers. They are the kind with bonkers reinforced square cones that like edge wound wire in voice coils, means you get more of what it does, in the space available. In a square wire coil, it means more SHOVE in the vice coil gap in the magnet but in a woofer cone it means more air, more BASS!
Oh, and there are six sets of coaxial six and a half inchers going in as well as three more four channel amplifiers. I will be all over this like a rash.
Griggs will be a happy bass head unleashed with this.
The sound off season continues apace but after a deeply bizarre and vile experience at a car show recently, where I now know I got trolled by the nastiest sort of attention whores I have ever heard of, let alone experienced in all my years working on the ‘˜net, that I am kinda burned, so may seek to take my hat to other sorts of events where I can still expiate my very own attention whoring needs (middle child syndrome is my excuse) with a different community, as I feel sacked by that one.
However, that is just the competition scene and while it has always informed our products, only a fragment of the percentage even of the hardcore people who buy this stuff, ever dare compete at sound offs and I prefer to do car features in their own space.
Plus, like I said, I have attended more sound offs than ANYONE in UK history and I do not expect to be beaten before 2020 by anybody for that time served.
Meanwhile, there are still developments afoot with the righteous. See the news about Alpine doing dealer discounts for Golf systems? I still need to lear about the Clarion digital speaker technology.
I do hope you get warmth and sunshinewhere ever you wind your windows down!
