Morel Dotech Ovation 6
A two-way component speaker system with separate tweeter units, midbass drivers and passive crossovers. Complete with a mounting kit to fit the tweeters in surface, angle or flush mounting applications, gasketing material and screws and fixings. These speakers are finished in a workmanlike black crackle to their pressed steel chassis and the tweeters are also housed in oval shallow horns to perform a similar task to the skinny ones in the JBL set that are referred to as ‘Waveguides’. These ovals are used to improve off-axis response. The grilles are the open frame style and the open chassis of the passive crossovers echoes this design.
The midbass drivers of Morel products are characterised by a very wide voice coil, under hung for better bass cone control. The cone is made of a cellular fibre composite and the speaker has spade connections. The tweeter diaphragm is made of a DuPont material called Accuflex.

Review by Adam Rayner
A little boring to look at compared to some of the truly fabulous looking bits of engineering we had in our huge group of twenty pairs of component speakers. However, the Morel people know a lot about making awesome speakers and these are no exception. Although they are inevitably made down to a price (when you make £1,400 a set speakers) these do feature a lot of the Morel brilliance in their construction, just scaled down to make it more affordable. They have huge coils and the quality of the tweeters is very high indeed. This was something that became apparent across many sets. The midbass drivers are usually better quality than the tweeter drivers inasmuch as the bit you can hear is the weakest link is often the tweeter. Not in this case, the sound was more than merely very good.
Huge power handling as well, means that even the hoolies can enjoy these as they cope well with massive drive. They were run on a bridged iPaul amplifier that puts out a possible 2 x 270w RMS. They do get a bit strident when played loud but the scale and size of the sound was excellent. The leading edges of big drums were all in there and Yello’s The Race was wicked. Nice and efficient, they raised a good level on the fixed-position tripod microphone test on the Audio Control SA-3055 RTA. I used a pink noise track at volume level 20 for each set and fixed the test box in the exact same spot each time.
These are so bloody posh for the money that despite a high tag, they do represent good value for money, too. Their score was high enough for them to earn a Recommended status.
