Morel: New ELATE Speakers

As promised in the ‘˜New Site Associate’ story, some lovely news now about the latest technology involved in the Morel Elate Series of speakers for 2013. (We have already lined up a full review of the new Virtus speakers to do soon and will be popping in at Auto Audio to do so.) This, now from Morel:
High-End Sound: The Morel Elate Three-Way Component Speaker Set
What makes the Elate 3-way series so special? Features like the large Hexatech„¢ voice coils, the C.A.R filter for better acoustic loading and special MXR crossovers derived from the Fat Lady, set the Elate series apart from competitors. Morel’s strict adherence to an overriding design idea for the new three-way speaker set, combining precision, musicality and high power capability, has made the Elate synonymous with excellence since its inception, delivering a system that can truly bring alive the soundstage with great transparency and imaging.

But it’s not simply about accuracy. Morel has always been associated, almost strictly, with sound quality, but there is also the highly dynamic aspect. The Elate three-way speakers play music the way they were meant to be heard! Not only with high fidelity but at powerful levels that allow listeners to FEEL as well as hear the music. The speakers are designed to bring to life recorded sound for an incredibly visceral in-car experience.
‘Given the difficulties of making speakers that will work well in the automotive environment, it was critical to understand the interaction between the system components and the inherent acoustical challenges of a car,’ said Mr. Oren Mordechai, Morel’s Executive Vice President and Head of R&D.
One of the significant contributing factors to the Elate series’ success is Morel’s MXR crossover topology. ‘It provides near perfect phase control and consistent transition between the drivers. It delivers the audio fidelity for which Morel is famous,’ Mr. Mordechai added.
The use of substantially larger voice coils has set Morel apart from its competitors from the beginning. The Elate employs the 3in External Voice Coil (EVC„¢) with Hexatech„¢ technology, which reduces air gaps in the coil windings to increase efficiency. The newly designed woofers continue to employ Morel’s C.A.R (‘Controlled Acoustic Resistance’) filter that controls airflow within the driver, mimicking the effects of a cabinet and improving power handling by 30% even when the speaker is installed in a free-air environment (such as a door), thus improving bass dynamics. Combined with the more powerful dual magnet motor/Hybrid magnet motor (in the 603 model), and one-piece DPC cone, you get a state-of-the-art driver that reproduces music faithfully and powerfully.
Complementing the woofer is the new MT250, 28mm, handcrafted Acuflex„¢ soft dome tweeter, featuring a vented cavity design for improved transient and dynamic range and the new CDM880 Acuflex„¢ dome midrange which provides a greater usable frequency band, smoothing the top end while improving the extension.
Available in three sizes, the Elate 503 utilizes a 5.25in driver; the 603 a 6.5in; and the 903 a 8.75in. Power handling is 160, 180 and 200 watts RMS, respectively.
Unleash the music with Morel Elate three-way and listen to truly high end sound in your car…
