In A Nutshell
The skinniest car speakers you will find, which means anywhere you can fit a baffle, can take a speaker, opening up all sorts of new possibilities, like high level in-the-roof-lining mounting. And they sound astonishing, with tweeters better than in your home hifi, unless you spent thousands.

Editor Review : Morel Virtus Nano 602 Ultra Slim Component SpeakersWhat They Are
A set of two-way component loudspeakers that look normal until you get to the main midbass drivers. These look simply as if Adam Rayner sat on them and squished them pancake flat. For, while the handsome passive crossovers are alike the others that Morel supply, namely a sexy curvy housing with windows to show off the high power passive components within – and the tweeters are entirely conventional, these 6.5 inchers are not.
‘The most exciting development I have seen in forty years’ was how one senior fellow in the business described these speakers. Because these are the ultimate in low mounting depth. So shallow and skinny that you can make a little baffle and if there is so much as room for a mouse to squish behind the speaker, you have room to install it. These Neodymium-magnet based loudspeakers are as revolutionary in design, making their niche of application widen, as Neo magnets themselves were when they appeared.
So, I had the Morel Virtus nano 602 set, comprising Virtus Nano MW6 6.5in carbon treated paper cone midwoofer, MT120N Tweeter with 28mm Acuflex„¢ hand coated silk dome and a pair of the MXR240n crossover networks.
The box comes with crimps for terminating speaker wires, a slew of tweeter housing hardware, including soft rubbery base plates for the surface-mount pod type mounts, as well as screws and fittings specialised to make the installation straightforward.
How Are They Made?
Fashioned with high levels of proprietary tooling. I don’t think there is any a part that Morel buy in. Made with exquisite attention to the environment they are going into, with a the shallowest mounting depth in all car audio.
Here is a deep-detail unpacking video of the two way Virtus nano 602 set. The figures took a nice hike up when Steve Mede shared my video to his feed just to be a friend

How Well Do They Work?
These are truly delicious and are so sure-footed, fast and wide ranging, that they create a perfectly holosonic stereo image, that is at utter remove from where you placed them. As long as you can get the path length correct, either by skilful installation or by digital time alignment, (at this level, likely to be both) then you will be rewarded with reference-grade sound.
In fact, these are so damn accurate and revealing that I was first delighted to have them in my mighty test rig, then all but immediately found myself listening critically to the source units. This happened in moments and is always a brilliant sign of a reference loudspeaker system.
The rig comprises a set of very solid wooden enclosures, an absorbed glass mat battery big enough to start a Centurion Tank – actually, even at 70% discharge, this actual, literal function is one of the Unique Selling Points of my great big Odyssey and some serious cables from top brands. I mount the tweeters on Blu-Tak, a superfluid that has literally incredible properties and remains the best way to practice-site the tweeters in your car to see what sounds best for you, be you as short as Kylie or as tall as the Iceman Pinder. Then you can decide if door or A-pillar is best.
I tried some Mudbone on CD and then, fired up the old SONY MEX ‘˜multi-disc’ machine. I dropped the bloody thing, cracked the display, which has gone dark but it still plays the mad SACD or Super Audio CDs, of which my one disc of Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon, is one.
The track with all the clocks going off at the start, oddly I heard best, first in Minorca at a bar that had studio monitors pointing at the street. And this disc has sounded tremendous through all manner of speakers I have tried. You can hear the extra breathiness, the wider dynamics and deeper richness of the better more detailed digits, post-regular-CD.
And the Virtus Nano lets you hear all this. The tweeters are literally and figuratively top end and the huge grip of the voice coil by the unique design of motor that Morel make from Neodymium, means the leading edges of bass notes are actually in the front and bass events stop when they should. They sound fantastic.
OK, so far, so normal, Morel made a speaker of huge fidelity and yet they fit into spaces a lizard would love. In every single case of speakers made to fit in smaller spaces, you find a compromise. And your question is of course about the bass from the super-thin drivers. Surely, they are severely limited in output? Well, that’s a no. In fact, they have the most stupefying specification. They are rated down to fifty Hz, only five cycles above where most makers put a ‘˜bass boost’ on amplifiers. So they reach deep and of course way lower than 50Hz, just less loudly, like any driver. Yet I accidentally (ahem) let a bit of the ancient dB Drag test disc play through them and they can bloody drop a note, as well as remaining as tight as a duck’s bum.
Obviously, you will want to run a subwoofer and not abuse them but I can tell you, that performance was in a box so big as to offer no real acoustic support to the cones, thus this was all but infinite baffle performance. A very good installer might be able to make a tiny enclosure behind the driver to help support it a little, yet that is not really needful.
I literally marvelled at these speakers and enjoyed them so much that I just messed about listening and playing for way longer than was ‘˜strictly necessary’ in my house.
Bit hey, who ever said ‘Strictly Necessary’ was a good thing? I played with these for pure pleasure.
