Car AudioNews

New Transducer Designer, New Product

In a market seemingly awash with product, you would have to be some sort of helplessly driven nutter to want to start up a new car audio company, be it speakers or amplifiers. We have met the insanity of the Audio Wave mad end posh amplifiers but I now have wind of a new lot, called SNG Audio who are fanatical speaker driver heads and have got to the late prototyping stage with an all-new set of SQL or Sound Quality, LOUD drivers, to be called the SNG Audio SQL Pro Series.

Meant to both raise some level but also to be as good to truth as they can make them, I have some snide ‘spy’ shots (Yeah, yeah of course, I just need them for me to look at…..) and some insider stuff about the design from the designer himself, a driven young academic acoustic alchemist named Gurj.

– Powder coated black basket for “Professional” looks
– Tinsel leads stitched to the spider for ruggedness
– Carbon Fibre reinforced cone for pistonic action
– 3in Copper Voice Coil for the extra bl or magnetic shove
– Tall surround and maximum cone area rather than an inverted dustcap
– Surround is stitched and glued to stop it coming away in extreme use, plus to make it really last “We want to make the driver as durable as possible so you only have to get another when you want to make your system bigger.”
– High quality easy connect push terminals
– 600W RMS/94db efficiency
And about the last power versus efficiency figure, which is in fact amazingly high for the big power it can take…
“We went with this on purpose. We feel that these huge RMS speakers are going the wrong direction; I’m sure you’ve seen floods of people killing their new subs because they been clipped to death due to inadequate power supply, etc. In the long term people are just going to leave car audio because they can’t afford the batteries, runs of 0awg, alternator, high power amp etc.. We felt there are plenty of amps that will push 600w without much strain on the existing power supply.”
So far so fascinating. We’ll keep you up to speed on this and see if we can get to hear them soon after ‘Vegas.
