PIONEER & APPLE CARPLAY: TALK AUDIO EXCLUSIVE MkII

Talk Audio TWO SCOOP! In a delightfully comprehensive fashion, Pioneer have today also made a march-stealing announcement regarding Apple CarPlay. Making the Talk Audio news cornet a two-scooper is the wrinkle that Pioneer may well get to the street a whole quarter earlier than Alpine, who sent their release just an hour or two before Alpine did today, as they are talking about a Summer rather than Autumn roll out of the ability to do this. Hmmm, I wonder if it will work with an iTouch gen 4? I shall find out, in due course.
Again, for those who didn’t read the news below this story and to paraphrase my own self… CarPlay was first shown for OEM use and talked about at the International CES last January but at the time, no aftermarket supplier was saying anything about being involved. Yet it has to be certain that to announce readiness to ship in the Summer of this year. (It’s what we call, ‘Fall’ herein Blighty, for my readers overseasby the way, ‘Hello Kiwis!’) then they had to be close to finished and ready to rock last January.
Talk Audio was at the CES and Simon King, Talk Audio reporter, suggested I ask questions about this issue of the likes of Pioneer and everyone else. I didn’tbut even more Kudos to the King of tech.. as he was double-bang on to a story that was not spoken of And today, direct from Japan via the UK head office, Pioneer had this to tell us:
Pioneer brings Apple CarPlay to the vehicle you already own. Firmware update for Pioneer’s in-car multimedia systems to debut this summer.
Pioneer Corporation today announced one of the first aftermarket in-dash car multimedia systems to provide Apple CarPlay, allowing consumers the ability to upgrade the vehicle they already own to the smarter, safer and more fun way to use iPhone in the car. CarPlay compatibility will be available in early summer 2014 via a firmware update to five 2014 Pioneer car electronics products. Utilising large, in-dash Pioneer LCD displays, CarPlay featuring Siri voice control, gives iPhone users the features while allowing them to stay focused on the road. With CarPlay, consumers with iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5 can use Siri to make and receive calls, compose and respond to text messages, use Apple Maps for navigation and listen to their music, podcasts and iTunes Radio. Product Executive at Pioneer, Mike Haseler, said: “Pioneer’s years of expertise integrating smartphone connectivity into the automotive environment has provided us the opportunity to be among the first to offer CarPlay to drivers. By providing an aftermarket option, Pioneer’s 2014 in-dash multimedia systems give many iPhone owners the ability to add CarPlay to their current vehicles.”
In addition to a host of on-board navigation and embedded entertainment options, Pioneer’s 2014 in-dash multimedia systems boast a more advanced and responsive user interface than previous Pioneer in-dash receivers as well as many sound quality, convenience and safety enhancements.
