Propper Droppers At Arena ESSEX
With a bit of a delay, here are the stills and video clips taken at the recent first round of the UK main Propper Droppers street bass contests. These are run by Marcos Barnes, a Nazarene by profession, who started this contest up a few years back. To give him his due, he has stuck at it, got some really cool people around him and has created a credible and for me, awesomely cool and utterly unique bass competition format as it tests how DEEP as well as how LOUD you can go. It is being picked up in Holland, Australia and even Trinidad & Tobago.
There are different classes so you compete on a level playing field and not up against a car with a nuclear explosion going on in the back from a wall of mayhem. Such things as Boot Boomers and even Rookie classes for first timers.
What I love is that they test at 45Hz, the place where most amp makers put their bass boost circuitry as centre frequency, then they go DOWN! The next tone is 40Hz, then 33Hz as a tribute to my very own reportage of the Clitoral Resonance Frequency, or CRF, and finally 20Hz. They have done Killer Hertz testing to 10Hz but only at season closure events as this kills stuff. Also, you can find ‘˜peak’ in your car cabin and use that in your averaging scores. The coolest thing is the door opening and shutting as part of the competition process. It all adds up to making it actually a spectator sport.
