PURE DiscovR to be Tested

It’s always lovely to hear from an old mate and today I was called by an ex Parrot executive who is now doing the same high powered PR job for PURE. PURE have a new smart speaker called DiscovR and it has some cool engineering and some clever new features that make me kinda curious.

The best bit for the paranoid is that feeling that Alexa (for it is she that DiscovR is an adjunct to) is always listening, even if you don’t want her to. The DiscovR has a top that you press down to latch or release the innards like a little turret. Doing that physically disconnects the microphone.

So in a time where some people believe that Facebook is listening and sending you adverts for stuff you didn’t type anything about – and the big sites like Amazon, who created Alexa, are saying it isn’t like that, you can just turn it off.

In any case, it will prevent a loud TV soundtrack from confusing her! And we are being sent one to try. I am so looking forward to it.
