Car Audio

Rockford Fosgate Tech Videos Give Me Goosebumps

You do have to hand it to Rockford Fosgate. I have been watching their R&D progress for twenty years. Can you believe that “The Rockford Way” was once about loading up a 2 x 22w RMS amplifier with four sets of components and a subwoofer, ALL entirely assembled in the gentle lunacy that is high power passive crossovery? One design used twenty-four drivers. It worked, sort of and Rockford were heroes.
I still have a board covered in coils and capacitors to use as a three-way stereo-plus-passive-bass crossover in test rigs for amps. All in the speaker wires! Who even recalls all that? Or could now design a passive crossover, let alone even know what a choke was, nor a Millihenry, even if it bit them in the leg?
And now, Rockford have been making badass audio for even longer and have some simply deliciously bonkers technology involved in woofers for cars. Once again, the home theatre guys are gonna marvel and call me the UK’s Leading Expert in Extreme Audio. This means they are scared of car audio. Here’s why:

I especially love the bit where it tells you that an equivalent Ferrite magnet to the slug of Neodymium that is inside this 19 inch weapon, would weigh 100lbs…
If you cannot possibly fit a woofer big enough to launch full scale bazooka explosions, rather requiring something properly compact, well, they have a solution for that, too.

What’s startling is how much technology both weapons-grade and compact models share. The encapsulated Voice Coil stuff is different, though.
I want to hear that bad boy, so much!
