Talk Audio – Get Yer Woofers Out!
Well, as promised, all the editorial about the Vibe kit and the CASPER weekend was published last week and I also connected up that DB3000 from Massive. I hooked a fappin’ Whacker of a subwoofer onto its terminals, an MTX T612-44. This is Son Of Jack. Hammer, that is. Designed with a phat slice of the lunacy that went into the original 22 inch Jackhammer subwoofer, this round stitched-cone twelve boasts a 400w RMS power handling and that’s pretty huge! I worry about just how well the now quite used Odyssey battery will bear up under the suck that this woofer can allow its driving amplifier to generate through the huge one over gauge wire in the power system I use. However, I always do testing with the voltmeter running, so I might even video the rig again as it seems popular.
I have swagged a new cinematographic tool in the shape of one of these, a Genius HD520 Camcorder. It runs on SD cards and a mobile phone battery and so has huge life and capacity as well as being a totally brain dead simps to operate. I have high hopes that instead of the ‘HD’ capability, I can set it to record directly to YouTube resolution. We’ll see…
I safely returned the suit to Mr. Fat Bastard Formal Wear Hire after the glittering night of the Mobile Electronics News awards (it’s the trade magazine) and now, I get to write up the winners’ glory in a whole load of copy for them. I’ve also started a column up again for the stalwarts still in the trade. This last one was to remind them that come 2012, the DAB explosion will result in one last industry bean feast as everyone gets re-equipped to listen to Radio Two once more.
I am also getting in the collection of coaxials to get a bit mainstream. Components are the enthusiasts’ thing but coaxes sell more, are easier to install and often serve up some real point-source tonal accuracy. So far, I have no fewer than five in from FOUR, in the shape of DLS, Rainbow, CDT, Hertz and Massive offerings and want to get stuff in from all the guys to do a huge-arsed round up try loads and loads of them. There’s also that Death test of subs to think about as well….
