Talk Audio – Music Makes Our World Go Around
Hey it’s still sunny and it looks like we are due for a real summer for a change! This can only help the mobile electronics trade, as it’s always been described as a ‘windows down’ sale. I have seen blokes and women alike this last week, driving around in cabriolets with the music playing as loud as it’ll go. You know Morel in Israel so loved a review I did of some of their speakers in a section called ‘Winders Dahn’ in Fast Car that they published an extract on their website. Only in translation into Hebrew, they figured ‘Winders Dahn’ was my actual name and put that as the author. When I let them know that I was thrilled to have two reviews in their extracts section but that they needed to change the name. they were mortified. I was unworried as I can’t even order a kosher pizza in Hebrew….
The last week was straddled by two shows, one was huge at the East of England Showground – the Modified Nationals – and I still owe you a write up with all the pics and who was up to what. Also, the last weekend just gone was the annual Car Audio Security open weekend. The demo car turnout was awesome as ever, since CAS is generally the biggest account for all the distributors and manufacturers alike. Which I guess makes this outfit the most happening in the land! It was certainly a blast and I got a ‘Lion Lies down with the Lamb’ shot of a row of top executives from the likes of Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC, Four, Armour and Fusion, which will come in handy as the board of directors for an upcoming Son Of BoomZilla episode. (One where MegaCorp make another three headed dog beast to be called Puppy of Cerberus to take Son of Boomzy on.)
I have a wee deadline to chase today with a write up of a £16,000 7.1ch speaker system from Paradigm that I had to go see as it was too big for my home to fit, so I’m keeping the ear in on the posh stuff for you. Which makes the opinion on the performance of the Alpine SPG-17CS components currently at the top of the review tree as most recent addition all the more remarkable. They are in fact an eleven for value but the system won’t let me do that….
When I offer up a high score for sound quality, it’s coming from a place that’d scare the kaka out of many so called ‘posh’ speaker makers (BOSE anyone – ooh bitchy!) simply from my having got to hear so many and such excellent speaker systems.
Lastly, I have a slew of new kit to test from woofers like the RE12D4 and the oddly high-winning yet inexpensive DLS RW10 to the eagerly awaited JVC and Pioneer top end decks 77 and 88 respectively.
I know I won’t get at all of it but I’m going heads down at it as I just love doing this stuff for a living!
So thanks to all the Talk Audio site associates new and old, I love you guys…(gush!)
