Talk Audio – Stocks Are For Cocks
Do go check out the new stuff if you haven’t already, and sadly no points for spotting that I got the part number wrong in the voice over to the video to your upper right. At least I was consistent. The product is the Alpine SBE-1243BR bass box, which I enjoyed. Not the SWE-1243E subwoofer driver itself, where SBE denotes it’s a Box and SWE denotes it’s a raw woofer and BR stands for Bass Reflex acoustic loading as against BP Band Pass loading and E denotes the series of raw woofer driver. So, I had nothing to get confused, just being dense…..
The back story of the Alpine SPG speakers many months of R&D is published with rare access directly to a member of Alpine who has recently been to Japan and had meetings with directly-involved engineers in the coolest place on the planet. Electric Town, Tokyo. Even in Japanese it sounds cool.
Akihabara.
It was of course confirmed by Armour Automotive that they were to be the new home of audiophile brand Focal and we had another story from Jon Clements – this time a brief show report, as against news from the dB Drag world. The first of many.
I’m getting increasingly excited about T17 and for Disney fans…. “The Puppies are ‘ere!” The prizes have been delivered to the warehouse. That’s a JBL GTO24001 amplifier” and a set of JBL 660GTi component speakers for the winners of the two competitions we are going to be holding. One guessing SPL and one guessing pitch, using the Audio Control SA-3055 Real Time Spectrum Analyser/SPL Meter. That’s £1,800 worth of prizes. This is a bit serious…..
Went off to Car Audio Security t’other day for an EMMA event liaison with an Astra van. Not for once the Iceman’s Astra van but instead that of Lee Thomas, arguably one of the top ‘practising audiophiles’ (that means he actually HAS the kit both home and car) in the UK. His van is astonishingly hard for a fat bloke to get in and has been designed to make the sound as good as possible and to hell with ‘stock’. Whereas Mark Turner’s BMW is a real car, Lee’s is like a rolling studio control room, built from the ground up for the ability to tell subtle nuance. You can expect a feature in due course. But the car I had gone up to see was the DLS Summer Performance Package car built by those über-keen lot at HighDown on the south coast. I’ll do my best to get the intro and trinity of tests all written up and published, soon as.
You will be seeing the Clarion Subaru from Las Vegas soon as well. I heartily recommend you do the RSS feed thing if you haven’t yet (just to your right – click on the Orange thingy at the bottom) as this was an outrageous build. 156dB at low Hz anyone? Yes, Clarion does SPL with control. It was so cool we saved it up for you for a summer read and drool n’dream. And RSS will interrupt your day nicely, injecting some reverie via an e-mail, how ever you get them.
One reason it’s a shorter week is that I’m off to see the folks at Alpine, which marks the start of year three of Talk Audio magazine in the forum’s ninth year. So I’ll always remain the noob.
And one last wonderful thing apart from Happy Second Birthday TA magazine, the second episode of Son of BoomZilla (see below) is now here and ready for me to sort and send in this week. For real lovers of graphic art. Just check out the cultural references in the bedroom scene’s posters. My artist is gently but irretrievably bonkers and I love him. But we did find that grasping a Wacom Intuos graphics tablet and software was so different from the admittedly horribly laborious mouse method, that it still kinda took a while to get out there. They’ll get quicker….. Also, at some point soon, we will have a full digital rescan of the original BoomZilla series artwork published right here on the front page in the same quality viewer. It’ll be awesome.
I think we’re gonna have to make action figures…
