Talk Audio – Welcome To The Evolution Of In-Car Entertainment

When most folks are off having a bit of R&R, TA is ramping into a new era and its third year of the magazine. (NINTH for the forum!) I’ve been off having the most heavy duty meetings of my entire career to date with head honchos of the outfits that matter most. For a happy little equipment reviewer, it’s all been dangerously close to grown-up stuff!
I cracked a new review category last week and you’ll be seeing that up on your upper right any day – that of ‘Audio Visual Equipment, Non-Dash mounted’. Meaning anything that involves pictures as well as sounds and doesn’t sit up front. So it’s roof monitors, DVD hideaway boxes and so forth. This first one is the C-KO DVBT-1080 mobile televison tuner from noted A/V distributors, Automotive Styling. They do screens from weeny to ruddy huge and are about to get into all sorts of exciting areas that you’ll hear about here first. The tuner was well ‘ard and dead clever. Definitely the first one I’ve seen made properly from the ground up for actual moving car use, rather than a ‘tuner in a box on 12V’.
I did get out fishing one day last week for a feature as “thumb fingered idiot does good” with an angling writer called Ian Welch for the Anglers Mail. Only I failed miserably and lost three fish and we didn’t get the Money Shot of an actual fish. (so we gotta go back) The photography and journalism he does and I do have a lot in common but I only have to open a parcel to get at my quarry.
Said quarry is possibly going to undergo a slight change in angle of approach in as much as the video stuff you guys see seems to be better and more eagerly received than the print reviews. So whilst we’ll keep a brief written system running, I might be able to get more products covered in the time with more video work. It does have it’s drawbacks. You cannot make a video while knackered, unshaven and totally grumpy but you can write a review and then polish it in the morning!
As ever, an increasing slew of stuff to go get on with, so I better had. Enjoy your hols if you are getting away!
