Week Fifteen GADGET SHOW & DEEP BOOMING BASS
Residents of Thurrock-With-An-F would have felt gentle seismic disturbances on Saturday night as it was the first King Of The Ring bash at Arena Essex Raceway. This is where we used to do the Mean Street Cruise and have the dB Drag racing bass contest going on in the pits. These days, Darren Millard’s dB Drag stuff happens all over the UK and Marcos Barnes’ ‘Propper Droppers’ format has risen as an actual ‘thing’. It is a boom competition about deep street bass, as well as pressure and has all sorts of cunning wrinkles that make it far more of a performance thing than a simple turn up and biff it contest. I love dB Drag, adore SQ sound off of all kinds and indeed, without all the history of the SQ guys and the SPL stuff attached to it all in the past, this format could never have existed today.
Anyway, I was lucky enough to be allowed in on Saturday night to report by the KOTR folks and spent the night videoing folks and snapping woofers on the famous cinders that are the pit area at the racetrack. Well done to the organisers this time around as well, as they put up barriers to better separate the drift cars from the boomers, as they throw a lot of dust around. I got a video clip from the lass with the woofer tattoos and shall be following her progress through the season to see how she does as I know, after last year and even going to Salzburg as a passenger just to soak up the atmosphere at the European EMMA finals, means she is hardcore car audio kind now.
And Gadget Show Live is upon us, with Professional Day tomorrow at the NEC in Brum. However, I shall be starting my day over the road at the special dealer event with Pioneer’s car division to learn all about their new stuff for 2014. Then its over the M42 to get striped by the NEC car parking fees, (which are second only to London’s fair streets in cost) and the closest thing we have to the CES in the UK, even given that it is a public not trade show. For on GSL Pro Day, it is of course registered delegates only.
My bribery for likes worked I was chuffed to see a nice spike, so hell, I have more. Just biff the LIKE on the Talk Audio FB page. And I will pick the first and then every fifth one to just post a USB stick to for free, P&P and all. OK, short week so better get on Oh yes – Morel Virtus, Kenwood super slim XR-400-4 four channel amp and a Clarion bass box in the review system this week and I have a System Of The Month shoot in my hands. Plus, I am way overdue but I have two superstar Morel installers cars to check out, a Lamborghini Aventador Mansory to do for Morel Mondays and last and best of all, Steve Meade is finishing the Tahoe in its current form so we can send a top end snapper to see him and make a feature for Fast Car!
