Week Forty-Four – I AM Jetlagged Some More….

Hello and welcome to my slightly more laid-back weekly column. I have a minor confession to make… I am crap at jetlag! There is something about travelling east that is much harder to cope with. If a Brit goes to America, what is considered best practice is to stiff it out and stay awake until bedtime in the zone you have arrived at. International CES attendee colleagues share stories in the press room during respite from the show floor, about the times their body clock is waking them up, PINGGG in the wee small hours in their hotel room. Hilariously, on the much fewer press trips east to Japan, I recall getting the morning erection at three in the afternoon Japan time and even asking bizarrely, of one of my mates on the trip, whether this was happening to him too? It was slightly hysterical as we shared that it was a ‘yes’ and that we were both a bit worried, since we were in a factory filled with small middle-aged Japanese women in blue housecoats and hairnets and wondered if this had been getting to us….
So while you adjust to the local zone, by about the day it is time to come home on a USA trip, it takes longer to readjust when coming back east to the UK. I have been waking and sleeping at stupid times and I’m only just getting past that sensation of unreality, where daylight and how you feel about it, don’t quite cog-in.
All of which gives me more reason to be impressed by Gary Shapiro and the CEA top peeps who came to London to present CES unveiled last Monday. They had come from the USA and were in the Groucho club hosting a table each, for eminent members of the press, as they were shown leading edge innovative stuff that would be being released at the International CES 2016. They had not slept, it was the same day that they had flown! That is double tough.
One of these tech stories I will write about in its own news story. If it doesn’t make your erectile tissue awaken then you are no kind of tech at all! I was honoured to be in that company of journalists and cannot help but feel that I am punching above my weight. The public relations firm are called Summerhouse PR and are awesome. (I would think that..) It’s that “they know everyone” thing… even ME!
A huge thanks to Summerhouse PR for including me again.
During this last week, I drove to Poole in Dorset, where I spent the day filming with Chris Bennett at the UK HQ of JL Audio. All sorts of JL Audio stuff including demo cars. I do blither on camera and indeed, in a few of these videos make reference to being jetlagged and will put it on record now, that that is how come the camera caught me filling up and even shedding a little tear, for the sheer bloody beauty of it all, for the first time ever on camera…
God it’s embarrassing but Chris was chuffed rotten.
Git.
Despite the grooviness of Mitch and Ash at Alpine, I admit that I am delighted to be lined up to be making some more video material with Atsuhiro Takeda in his corporate ride, next week, about a new bit of Alpine ordnance. Sorry guys, Atsu slaughters you for `YoutTube hit rates…
Now to go and write a little news story in which I get to use the term FORCE FIELD! I am so happy to have lived to see it….
Drive carefully, enjoy your tunes, don’t get nicked.
