Week Forty-Two In Which I have Marvelled at Mille
One can refer to something as being marvellous, in this case a set of Hertz Mille loudspeakers but one can’t point at someone and say, ‘You are marvelled! There! I saw you, marvelling!’ But I did. I marvelled, for they are marvellous! The review is right on the front page but if you are reading this later, then it is under the ‘˜Speakers’ reviews tab.
I just love the fact that there are still makers, in this case ultra keen Italian ones, who care enough about fine quality sound to make such fabulous quality loudspeakers for use in cars. I include the best from Alpine, Pioneer and Morel, DLS and other guys like Audison and Focal in there. In a world that has vile me-too crappy speakers to go with a dirt-cheap-but-still-an-actual-amp type products, where those arse-end makers claim to have the attention of 90% of the market, it is lovely that quality wins over sheer Mindlessly-Silly-Watts ratings.
I have a DLS mini mono block amplifier on the test rig which is very sweet and neat, with a startling amount of power in its tiny belly, to write up, along with the Soundstream 4.400 Reference four channel amp from importers ProPlus Audio. There’s a slice of Clarion goodness coming your way soon as well and I have a dinky wee bass box from Alpine also to place in the rig.
On top of that, I went recently to the Ace Café and met Yega, a systems analyst, drummer and VAG motorist, who happily came to a VAG night up at the Ace, so we could meet up and let me play the Bass Mekanik bass album, KONTROL through his system, which has classy CDT front speakers and an Ascendant Audio subwoofer with a mighty JBL GTO1400 amplifier up its butt. Full review coming soon, with ratings for how well it stretches your system and how cool the tunes are.
Lots to write up and catch up, so I had better go get on
