Week Seven : Wherein My Pleading With The Phone Company Works!
OK, the Blaupunkt headphones are front of the queue. I wanted to get them done last week but the NextBase Click9 Duo Lite seatback DVD system turned to be an absolute beast. Neat, clean, clever and powerful, with screen resolution as good as the best in the industry and far easier to view, angle-wise than the little telly in my bedroom. Then it’s finally going to be Parrot time. The unit’s been around a while and there are new and even cleverer items from them afoot but this is still a machine that very few of you will have had first hand experience of as yet.
I have some interesting news on the Bass Box Turkey Twizzler that I ranted about in my Week Two column. They were ‘˜bass boxes’ that sold to the trade for £8.50 and were sold for £60. They were made of compressed cardboard and if a woofer of over a few watts was put in it and used, they tore themselves to bits and made anyone who was unfortunate enough to buy one and have this happen, think that car audio was a rip off.
I had vowed to cause their demise.
Anyway, despite my source being impeccable, the likely suppliers all denied it, as did one vendor. Since then, I have found out that they were on sale at a place I was told they were not and that now they are ‘˜no longer available’ at the suppliers in question. So, on the face of it, it does seem as if Talk Audio (and my fat self) carry some clout and that these items have been vaporised in instant fear of exposure. A bit scary reallyor I could just be deeply deluded. You decide.
I have to have this finished pretty quick as I have finally managed to plead BT into sending Openreach to check the line outside my house as I have been having a seasonal winter-only internet-connection-only intermittency for years. (Mind you, there was a loud click and total disconnect from an actual call the other day) This does not show up on line tests from call centres and exchanges but after all this time they are going to do it without the Damocles fee hanging over me, as it is clearly associated with freezing weather. Here’s hoping to hell they can find a nice dirty join to just re-do and cure me.
Lastly, on the pukka bass box front, I learned something this morning that I didn’t know. Bass Zone have a new website offering all their solid well-fashioned and sealed MDF enclosures right here; link and that they also undertake custom jobs. So if you are needing help and need a magic design-and-build service hit the site or call them on 01902 73 11 78. They know their stuff. As ever, just tell them the Fat Man sent you
