Week Thirteen Black Death Desolates All Europe!
We all know that brands have image and fanbases. We also know that most folks like to follow the herd and few are daring enough to forge their own path. These are the leaders, the doers and makers. And while some accrue reputations in various directions, these are not always down to facts so much as feelings. Thus one or two radio brands became unpopular and one or two are madly revered.
But the only real crime the Midbass guys ever did was to dominate supply to the de-facto biggest seller of car audio in the UK, Halfords. Yes, not a popular word among the ‘˜experts’ but their rude image in the flash herberts’ camp is so utterly unjustified in my experience. I needed new wiper blades for my car and it was not properly on the DVLA register, being on some sort of cusp date. It was the lass in the department in Halfords that knew which Bosch blade fitted my car exactly. And not one of you reading, I bet, has NOT been to a Halfords to get a bit of wire or a doodad they needed urgently
And this last week, we have just had the EMMA (European Mobile Media Association) Euro finals event, where cars and vans from all over Europe, vie to be the best sounding, best installed and plain loudest – on music, not tones in this format – in all the continent.
The Midbass guys’ hearse was able to do 160dB last year and I still maintain that it did, once while I was sat inside it. There was disbelief and plain attitude that it was a Vibe item and so couldn’t possibly have performed at that level but I have always maintained that it did. And Midbass have been working on a new Vibe Black Death product bass van. A Volkswagen T5, it was FIVE decibels clear of the next loudest vehicle and won the EMMA SPL contest with a whopping 160.1dB on MUSIC!
So welcome Vibe back into the better respect zone and be afeared, for the T5 is coming to a show near you, soon! I called my chum at Midbass, an executive who has been with them for a long while and helped shape their success, named Emma, just to confuse you! And she said, ‘I have the furthest office away from the warehouse where they built it..and when they test it, it makes me feel sick! Obviously, it is a fabulous result’
I think we need to know more about this beast, expect more, soon.
