Week Thirty-Five In Which We Get ready for TRAX!

The Waxstock show at the weekend was amazing. The whole of the UK detailing trade that mattered were there, as well as some hardcore Concours D’elegance fans. One couple had owned their Cortina for 22 years! The machinery for polishing cars and the whole science of car paint and how it should look was fascinating and I learned an enormous amount about ‘orange peel’ paint and how the Rolls-Royce lovely smooth glass-like shine is all about the perfection in finish of that lacquer coat and how to ‘correct’ paint. It transpires that a slew of BIG German car makers regularly get stick from buyers of their higher end models due to the lack of perfection of the factory-applied paint. I do know about the B&W Nautilus’ loudspeaker’s car style paint, (that’s the snail-shaped one) done by an outfit called Raceprep for B&W. They allow NIL blemishes, whereas the Rolls and Bentleys of this world permit up to five or six blemishes per square metre! It was awesome.
Meanwhile, I gather that the first ever regional Propper Droppers event was held on Sunday also at B&B Audioconcepts’ open day and was a success. I asked Waz himself about the dudes and he told Talk Audio, ‘Those guys are nuts! Some cars were flexing three inches from bass and they’re in there, smiling!’
It’s a classic wet August bank Holiday, so I’ll keep this short. I owe reviews again but shall be bringing you a little taste of Waxstock and also getting at the amazingly small Ground Zero six inch woofer. Do keep an eye on @TheAdamRayner on Twitter, as I am getting a grip of using more pictures. So as well as fishing lakes in groups every now and again for the Anglers’ Mail, there will be shots of new home speakers as I review them too. Starting with an £800 JBL ‘LOFT’ system that is very skinny yet supposedly potent. We’ll see!
Finally, I went to see a film at the ODEON in Uxbridge, Middx, recently and I can tell you that the sound system in their Imax theatre has some of the best and deepest bass ever played to the public. I was so impressed that I climbed up their rope, journalist style and to cut it all short, I now also have a story about IMAX and the most powerful extreme audio experience you can pay to go try – even better than the supposed volcanic eruption simulator in the Canary Islands Timanfaya national park world vulcanicity study centre! I have a lovely long interview with the top guys at Imax in Canada and stills and video of the auditorium, the equipment and even behind the screen up close with the subwoofers.
Do you think a Talk Audio group buy might have the power to fill the cinema and get them to play us Caspar ‘Where’s my Money’ and that ‘Centipede’ item that Renshaw-san adores so much? Hell, we could do a vote and select a bunch of tracks or even get them to play a Bass Mekanik item. OMG! What about getting The Mekanik to MAKE an IMAX item? Fully remixed as discrete channels&;.. As after all, everything is vertically integrated with Imax from Spielberg (film makers) to the microphone listening to the auditorium during performances that can elicit control changes from Canada via online control!

All this and TRAX next Sunday when we find out who has won the 2012 EMMA leagues and gets the Dynamat and Phoenix Gold sponsored year-trophies as well as their show event ones.
It’s all still an exciting world to live in for the audio nutter and car audio still rules!
